Hundreds of Hondurans head for US border in mass migration 'march': report

Hundreds of Honduran migrants are headed for the United States border, just days after Vice President Pence sat down with the Central American country’s leader, urging him to take a tougher stance on mass migrations.

At least 1,300 people, including young children, left San Pedro Sula in northern Honduras on Saturday, in what some are calling the “March of the Migrant,” Reuters reported.

Bartolo Fuentes, the organizer, told the news agency that the group plans to march through Guatemala and into Mexico. From there, participants will request refugee status, which would allow them to stay in the country, or they will apply for a visa to pass through into the U.S.

The development came just days after Pence met with Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, President Jimmy Morales of Guatemala and Vice President Oscar Ortiz of El Salvador, asking them to step up and help combat illegal immigration in return for help from the U.S.

Pence addressed the three leaders on Thursday in Washington, at the Conference for Prosperity and Security in Central America.

"If you do more, I'm here to say on behalf of the president of the United States and the American people, we'll do more," he said.

Pence said that flows of illegal immigrants from Honduras and Guatemala are up 61 percent and 75 percent, respectively.

According to the Reuters report, 64 percent of Honduran households live in poverty. Many of the migrants are fleeing a poor economy and some of the highest crime rates in the world.

Hernandez told Pence he would like more certainty about what to expect from the United States, because the funds requested by the Trump administration are below allocations from previous years.

The Trump administration proposed $460 million in assistance last year, 30 percent less than what Congress approved in 2016 under President Barack Obama.

Mass migrations have become a growing problem at the border. In May, almost 200 migrants from Central America attempted to seek asylum in the U.S. after traveling with a caravan of over 1,000 migrants.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Mexico can't issue a visa to pass through into the US. I guess if they want to license illegal aliens in their country, then can do so, but not for "passing through into the US". The US won't recognize such a visa to gain entry into the US. We would only recognize that visa to make them a "Mexican Person" which would remove them from being an "OTM" and they can be turned away and bumped right back into Mexico by BP.

The bottom-line is: DO NOT LET THEM IN. Deny their request for entry to apply for asylum on the simple basis that they have no basis for such a claim if they are from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador or Mexico. There are no conditions in their countries that create a "refugee" or "persecution" by the government. Poverty, crime, domestic violence, these are issues all countries have including the United States, these are not issues that form the basis of a credible, legitimate asylum claim.

Why we have all these frauds wandering our land can only be attributed to BP's failure to deny them at the border and DOJ's failure to bump them out immediately while they're in custody at the border. DOJ has 113,000 employees, they have more than ample staff and personnel to fly down and handle this at the border as soon as they appear or are picked up by BP, if and when BP doesn't deport them at the border and needs DOJ for some reason to issue a DOJ deportation order.

So basically Mexico is aiding this by issuing the folks from Central America a temporary visa to allow them the time to cross Mexico in route to our border. With friends like Mexico, who needs enemies?

We need our U.S. Congress to immediately begin working to rewrite our asylum laws. This is needed without delay. We also need Congress to allocate the necessary funds to build Trump's border wall and secure our border. Oh, and people in hell want ice water too.

WATCH: 1300+ Hondurans Begin Organized Trek to U.S. Border

    October 14, 2018

    Ildefonso Ortiz and Brandon Darby

    [

More than 1300 Honduran men, women, and children began a trek that is expected to take them through Central America and Mexico. Some of the migrants plan to seek asylum in Mexico while others plan to head to the U.S. border. The march appears to be organized through social media.

The march, dubbed “March of the Migrants,” began this weekend in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where more than 1300 men, women, and children began a trek that will take them from Honduras to Guatemala and into Mexico where some will seek refugee status. Others are expected to continue north to the U.S border, Reuters reported.

Soon after the march began, social media groups promoting the well being of Honduras and Central America posted videos and photographs condemning the government and the lack of opportunities in the country.

The march is largely being organized through social media where Honduran residents were called upon to begin the trek in San Pedro Sula, Reuters’ Gustavo Palencia reported in Spanish.

Mexico’s Azteca Noticias reported that the ultimate goal of those in the march is to reach the U.S. border to escape the poverty and the violence in Honduras.

According to Reuters, the primary reasons being mentions by those taking part in the trek are lack of jobs and violence. The march comes just months after a similar effort organized by the U.S. group Pueblo Sin Fronteras helped coordinate a caravan of more than 1,500 men, women, and children that trekked through Central America into Mexico seeking to reach the U.S. to request asylum, Breitbart Texas reported. While some members from that caravan stayed in Mexico, a large number made their way to the border where they worked to request asylum at the international ports of entry.

“There is no work and so much violence that you can get killed walking down the street,” 25-year-old Javier Solis told Reuters. He said he has not been able to find work for a year and wants to make his way to the United States. It is not his first attempt to illegally make his way to the U.S. Reuters reported that his first attempt ended in deportation after he made it to the Mexican border.
