'Swordfight Between 2 Vacuous Giants': Former ICE Agent Blasts Andrew Cuomo, Cynthia Nixon

August 30, 2018

Former ICE Agent David Ward blasted New York Democratic gubernatorial contenders Andrew Cuomo and Cynthia Nixon for their fiery anti-ICE rhetoric during their Wednesday debate.

Ward said Thursday on "Your World" that the Hofstra University forum was a "swordfight between two vacuous giants."

Cuomo, the incumbent, boasted that "nobody has stood up to Donald Trump the way I have," adding that ICE agents are "thugs" and that he is unafraid to sue the federal government.

He said he is suing the Trump administration for "ripping children" from their mothers. Nixon has also called ICE a "terrorist organization" and supported the organization's demise.

"I challenge Governor Cuomo to come up with one incident where an ICE agent ripped a feeding child from his mother's breast," Ward said, adding that Cuomo's rhetoric is not factual and that both Democrats embody an "insane strategy."

Cuomo and Nixon face a September primary to see who will be opposing Republican Marc Molinaro, a county executive in the Poughkeepsie area.

"It's basically anarchy, what they want. They have no concept of law and order," Ward said of the Democrats.

Ward and Cavuto also discussed how many Democrats supported the Homeland Security Act of 2002, a law proposed by then-Rep. Dick Armey (R-Texas) that helped lead to the creation of ICE.

Notable supportive Democrats included then-Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Joe Biden (D-Del.), as well as Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Richard Durbin (D-Ill.)

A handful of high-profile lawmakers also voted against the legislation, including then-Sens. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.), Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.).
