Benito Martinez (Syracuse Police Department)Posted: 11:49 AM- Syracuse police are searching for a 22-year-old man in the alleged weekend rape of an 11-year-old girl.
Police were called to the girl's Syracuse home about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Tracy Jensen. The girl was interviewed and several items in the home led police to believe she had been attacked.
Jensen says today that authorities are seeking Benito Martinez, an undocumented immigrant, for questioning. Martinez, known to the girl's family, had been living in her home.
Martinez left the home after the alleged attack and hasn't been seen since, Jensen said. He is described as a Latino, about 5-foot-8, 120 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Accused Child Rapist Caught In Colorado

(KUTV) SALT LAKE CITY The hunt for a man accused of raping an 11-year-old Syracuse girl came to an end after he was caught in Colorado Tuesday night.

After an intense day of following up on leads Syracuse police got a tip that Martinez may be staying at one of several addresses in Castle Rock.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday Castle Rock Police apprehended Martinez without incident.

Officers say they went to knock on the door of one of the addresses and could see him sitting on the couch.

Police say 22-year-old Benito Martinez allegedly sexually assaulted the 11-year-old. They say one of the victim’s family members caught Martinez in the act and when that person called police, investigators say Martinez fled.

Investigators say Martinez is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico and officers feared he would leave the country.

Investigators say the Martinez was renting a room in the girl’s family’s home.

Benito Martinez will be charged with three First Degree Felonies. An extradition hearing is expected.

Syracuse police worked with the cooperation of the U.S. Marshalls, Weber County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
