Sue Krentz Still Lives In Fear 6 Months After Husband's Killing

DOUGLAS, Ariz. - The Krentz family of southern Arizona has become the unwilling face of the border battle in Arizona after Rob Krentz was shot and killed on his ranch by suspected illegal immigrants in March.

They are now key players in the border debate that went nationwide, prompting political action and an intense focus on the 600 miles stretching from New Mexico to California.

But when television cameras turn off and legislators go home, Sue Krentz says she still struggles to regain some sense of normalcy while living in a world of fear.

"There's been over 400 people killed in Arizona by illegals, and why did this one galvanize the issue? Why did this one make such a public statement?" Krentz asked about the attention being paid to her husband's slaying.

Guilt isn't the emotion on might expect to see play out across Sue Krentz's face when she talks about her husband's death. But she questions why so many others before her husband had to die before people took notice of the border problem.

"We'd never had anybody do anything until March 27," she told CBS 5 News in a recent exclusive interview.

She said you can add disbelief, a heart-wrenching sadness and the never-ending confusion about what went wrong, to the fear and guilt.

"We don't know what happened; all I know is it was a real disaster for us, you know?" Krentz said.

She has lived near Douglas her entire life and said she never had a reason to be afraid until now.

"We had never, ever, ever, in 100 years, 103 years, had any conflict or any kind of problem with anybody on the land," she said.

Border-crossers using the Krentz Ranch as part of their path into the U.S. was nothing new. It was so common, the Krentzes would typically help them, Sue said.

"They'd bring them up to the house here and they'd feed them," she said of her family.

But Krentz said that's all changed.

"Lately they've become just a little bit more aggressive in their behavior," she said.

And the sheer number of people she sees crossing the border now is staggering, Krentz said.

"One time in eight days we had 500 border-crossers removed off the ranch. And they say for every one they catch, two to three get away," she said.

Now, as she walks her property, she's painfully aware of what could happen.

"Everybody is just more cautious, we're just more cautious. We're going to be a little more leery of people," she explained.

Sue took CBS 5 News to a place notorious for being a dumping ground used by illegal immigrants. It's a place where they get rid of the water bottles and clothes they no longer need, she said.

"Like today, you'll come out here and there will be nobody here, and two hours from now there might be somebody here," she said.

She said she knows life will never be the same on the Krentz Ranch.

Get legal or get out !

Robert Krentz did not die In vein. With the help of ALIPAC,Numbers U.S.A,and every patriotic AMERICAN CITIZEN that opposes Illegal Immigration,we will STOP this madness slowly but surely. We cannot do this overnight, as It has taken over 30 years to morph Into what It Is now. An out of control constant danger to our LEGAL citizens. Our country Is In serious jeopardy. Our national security, our culture, our language, and our way of life are being threatened. We will win this battle, because we cannot afford to lose. An entire generation Is on the line, and we must not let the politicians and their fellow elitist friends continue with this wholesale destruction of OUR nation. We may be a nation of "Immigrants",but I refuse to let this country become a nation of ILLEGAL Immigrants, and I will stand shoulder to shoulder with my fellow UNITED STATES CITIZENS to make sure that It does not happen... Truly heart-breaking. I can't imagine what it would be like to watch 500 illegal aliens a day cross my property, and be helpless to stop them.

Not according to Napolitano and the latest misleading press releases that say there are signficant reductions in the number of border crossers. :P
I tend to believe Mrs. Krentz who remains fixed on her property because illegals outsmart the understaffed border forces that are only moving patrols. Coyote smugglers only have to wait until BP drives out of the area so those in hiding can run across.
This section of Arizona border span should be heavily double fenced with cameras.
