APRecently released figures from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board show that during the 2009 fall semester, more than 12,000 illegal aliens paid in-state tuition rates at state schools throughout Texas. Many of them also received taxpayer-funded financial aid.
In 2001, Gov. Rick Perry signed into law a measure which allowed illegal aliens who have graduated from Texas high schools in-state tuition at state universities and colleges.
Similar laws exist in eight other states across the country.
The following states offer in-state tuition to illegal aliens: California, Illinois, Kansas, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma Texas, Utah, and Washington.
In 2003, the University of Illinois at Chicago's Center for Urban Economic Development concluded that if every one of Illinois' 2,226 illegal alien students that graduated from Chicago high schools and attended a public university, the cost to Illinois’ taxpayers for each graduating class of that size would be between $3.3 million and $11.6 million annually.
The group, Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas, filed a lawsuit in December, challenging the Texas law. However, similar legal efforts in other states have failed.
In 2005, a Kansas judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by a private group, ruling that only the Department of Homeland Security could bring such legal actions.
At a time when 1 in 5 Americans is out of work, and whole industries have been relocated to the Third World, many U.S. citizens are desperate to return to school, in order to learn marketable skills. Of course, few can actually afford to do so.
It is beyond outrageous that as states are going broke, we are financing college educations for illegal aliens.
What a country!

Los Angeles—Juan Hernandez-Campos, an undocumented engineering student, who completed his first semester at Harvard University, has been awarded a $50,000 per year scholarship to complete his studies at the ivy league school, reports Univison.com. Hernandez-Campos, who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, crossed the border nine years ago to be with his father, who works as a bricklayer in Los Angeles. Hernandez-Campos said that he wanted to be just like his father, who wanted him to be something greater.
Last year, while applying to universities, Hernandez- Campos learned that there are universities and private foundations that award scholarships to distinguished students, regardless of their immigration status. He was accepted at 15 universities, seven 7 of which offered him full scholarships. While in Los Angeles, Hernandez- Campos was in “After School All Stars,â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
