Feds Find Illegal Alien Hidden in Dashboard of Auto

by Jim Kouri - An El Centro man was arrested by federal officers Tuesday morning after he allegedly attempted to smuggle an undocumented woman into the US hidden inside the dashboard of his vehicle, according to Customs and Border Protection officials.

CBP officers encountered the driver, a 36-year old US citizen, as he entered the port at about 5:30 a.m. driving a green 1995 Ford Windstar. The driver stated he was a citizen of the United States and presented valid California identification to the officer. The primary officer noticed the driver’s nervous demeanor and referred the vehicle and occupant to the secondary lot for a more in-depth examination.

In the secondary lot, CBP officers discovered a female inside the air vents located in the dashboard. CBP officers carefully dismantled the dashboard and safely removed the woman.

The driver was advised of his rights, charged with alien smuggling, and was transported to the Imperial County jail.

The female illegal immigrant, who is a 38-year old Mexican national, was detained as a material witness in the prosecution case.
