Mexican protesters blocked traffic coming into their country from the United States on Wednesday in a demonstration pressuring their government to further restrict entry by Americans because of concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.
Around a dozen protesters holding signs and wearing masks used vehicles to block traffic into Mexico from the port of entry near Nogales, Arizona, according to the Daily Caller.
“There are no health screenings by the federal government to deal with this pandemic,” Jose Luis Hernandez, a member of the group that goes by Sonorans for Health and Life, said to reporters. “That’s why we’re here in Nogales. We’ve taken this action to call on the Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to act now.”
“This is for your health. This is for your family,” he added. “Or what do you want to happen? That this becomes worse given the irresponsibility of the Mexican government? Of course not. That’s why were here.”

Nearly 600 people have been inflicted by the coronavirus in Mexico, and eight people have died. In the U.S., there have been more than 94,000 confirmed cases and 1,400 deaths associated with the illness.
“Live life as usual,” Obrador told the Mexican people on March 22. "If you’re able and have the means to do so, continue taking your family out to eat … because that strengthens the economy.”
Dr. Francisco Moreno Sanchez, who is the head of Internal Medicine ABC Hospital in Mexico City, said the situation in Mexico is primed to be “as bad as Italy, or worse.”
Italy has more than 80,000 cases and 8,215 deaths as of Friday afternoon, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
