Lawsuit filed over Karnes detention center fast
Three at Karnes center sue feds

Three mothers being held in the Karnes County detention center for immigrant families have sued the federal government and the company that runs the facility over alleged retaliation against leaders of a fast there.
The mothers, who were involved in a fast during Holy Week, said they lost privileges and were held in isolation in the medical ward in retaliation for leading a protest and circulating a petition against their detention while their immigration court cases proceed.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has said the protest is not a hunger strike, which it defines as missing nine consecutive meals. In the lawsuit, the mothers say they drank water and milk and fed their children from the center’s commissary. During the announcement of another fast this month, activists said those participating were eating one meal a day.
During an on-background tour with members of the media at the detention center Wednesday, an ICE official said that all but one resident ate breakfast at the dining hall that morning.
“I’m here to assure you there have never been hunger strikes in Karnes,” said the official, who spoke on condition that reporters on the tour not release his name.
Most areas of the Karnes center are open to the women and children detainees. The women suing the government allege that their movement was restricted, that they were fired from their jobs and that some detainees were held in isolation and threatened after March’s fast.
“The ICE officials said that mothers on hunger strike would not be in good health, and would not be mentally fit to care for their children,” according to the lawsuit. “They said that if the mothers kept striking, ICE might take away their children, and they would be deported.”
The ICE official said detainees aren’t held in the medical ward unless they’re ill or need to see a psychiatric professional before being released into the general population.
GEO Group Inc., which runs the detention center, said the allegations are unfounded.

The purpose of DHS with regards to immigration is to control it and prevent it. That's the reason we have these federal immigration agencies. Their job is not to delay hearings and drag out this process for months or years while conspiring with Presidents to legalize their illegal presence. Americans don't work their asses off to pay these criminal income taxes to fund agencies to help foreigners migrate to the United States on any level, let alone on an illegal level.
We need a law right here, right now, that clarifies for this stupid government of ours that anyone who enters the US illegally or overstays a visa and is thus by definition an illegal alien in the United States has no legal rights here, except to leave. They can't file lawsuits, they can't protest, they can't enter public facilities, they can't file tax returns, they can't work, they can't rent, they can't buy homes, they can't vote, they can't lobby, they can't drive, they can't run businesses, they can't mow yards, they can't draw welfare, they can't sign up for Medicaid or Food Stamps, they can't get free school lunch, they can't go to college, all they can do is .... leave.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

Immigrant mothers once detained in Texas drop their lawsuit
September 10, 2015 11:56 CDT
SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Three immigrant mothers who alleged retaliation after taking part in a hunger strike at a South Texas detention center want their case dropped.
The San Antonio Express-News (http://bit.ly/1igvuj3 ) reports the women are no longer in detention. The women from Central and South America asked Wednesday to have the case dismissed.
The trio earlier this year filed a class-action complaint against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the private prison operator in Karnes City, the GEO Group. The mothers sought a court order to stop alleged retaliatory practices.
A judge declined to grant a temporary restraining order.
ICE has said it respects the rights of all people to protest.
One woman was granted legal status to remain in the U.S. The other two are free on bond as their immigration cases proceed.
