Swift donates $60,000 to United Way

GREELEY - Swift & Co. contributed $60,000 to United Way of Weld County in support of individuals and families affected by the recent immigration raids at the company's Greeley facility.

On Dec. 12 the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided six of the Greeley-based company's meatpacking plants around the nation. The raid resulted in the arrest of more than 1,200 individuals identified as illegal immigrants, according to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The raid, dubbed "Operation Wagon Train," resulted in a total of 261 arrests at the Greeley site. Of those, 250 were limited to administrative arrests for immigration violations only. The other 11 arrests were criminal in nature related to identity theft.

"We are aware of the financial and emotional strain this event has had on many families in our community," said Bill Danley, general manager of the Swift Greeley beef production facility, in a prepared statement. "We are committed to helping people through this very difficult time and hope this donation will aid in the delivery of services and support to those affected by the events of December 12."

Jeannine Truswell said that United Way will help families with basic needs, such as food and utilities.

Swift is still operating all shifts and is actively recruiting to fill the positions left vacant by the raid.

I tell you, I hope Swifts goes out the door. I will never buy any product from them ever again.

Yes I agree. I have not bought Swift products in a long time.

Swift is probably contributing to the support of those here illegally with the expectation that if an amnesty is passed, they can re-hire the same illegal workers who they had to fire.

I am not buying from Swift or Tyson....
I am going to have to raise chickens with my garden or I am going to be very skinny...

Swift should buy the illegal families a box lunch and a one way ticket
back to there country.

American taxpayers can't continue pump up profits for Swift & Co.
Free healthcare, section 8 housing, food stamps, WIC, etc. all because this company gets cheap illegal labor. So many illegals use many different names and IDs who knows how many collect in more then one name. How many borrow kids to show need and increase foodstamps?
Wall street and the big guys win, Americas taxpayers lose.

Send them back, and those responsibe at Swift & Co in jail.

Swift is going to get off. Wow, $60,000. I guess that let's them off the hook. They really care about their workers, especially the illegal ones. The more illegals they hire, the more wages get driven down and the more the Swifties at the top keep. It is a win-win for both Swift and the illegals! The United Way should have told Swift to keep the money to cover legal costs accrued from battling legal employees who want to sue over the company's hiring practices.

Why don't they give their legal employees a 60 thouand dollar pay raise instead.

remember they fired illegals two months ago and the employees walked out.
they were fired because the SS#s did not match. after much pressure and meetings with church leaders and others in Tar Heel NC, smithfield hired the illegals back and gave them 60 days to correct things.
