A former Texas Department of Public Safety employee who sold driver’s licenses to more than two-dozen unauthorized immigrants was sentenced Thursday to 15 months in federal prison.
Gloria Adame had pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to transfer identification documents produced without lawful authority.
She was a driver’s license technician who worked in the DPS Irving office.
Her job included issuing driver’s licenses after verifying that applicants were in the U.S. legally by examining birth certificates, social security cards, green cards and other documents.
In March 2011, Adame approached Rafael Rodriguez-Trevizo, who was in the U.S. illegally, and offered to give him a driver’s license for $700, court records show. He agreed.
Rodriguez-Trevizo was charged with possession of identification document produced without lawful authority. He pleaded guilty and was given one year of probation in July.
From March 2011 to November 2013, Adame agreed to issue more than 28 Texas driver’s licenses to unauthorized immigrants in exchange for different amounts of money, court records show.
Adame did so by entering false information into the system indicating the immigrants were either U.S. citizens or living in the country lawfully, authorities said.
