The employer is not being asked to POLICE social security numbers--only varify them before hiring--lets not exagerate the law.Quote:
As employers face increasing pressure from states and in the courts to more closely police Social Security numbers of undocumented workers, some in Texas say that's not their job and that such action could hammer the economy.
The real reason for the complaints is they want to hire illegals and keep wages depressed.
They probably are hiring illegals and don't want to be punished for their crimes.
If employers complain about verifying a simple social security number they are probably skirting by other laws too and don't deserve a business license.
1. Do they enforce OSHA standards for workplace safety?
2. Do they comply with the Hazard Communication Standard--employers must maintain a complete and accurate MSDS for each hazardous chemical used in the facility.
3. Do they provide the proper safty gear with instructions appropriate for the work?
4. Do they verify hired drivers have proper personal or commercial driver's licenses?
5. Do they verify driving records so the hired driver is covered by their vehicle insurance?
6. Do they verify those caring for children and the elderly with background checks for sexual and other types of abuse?
7. If they provide health insurance do they screen potential employees for history of cancer, AIDS, kidney disease, and other illnesses?
8. Do they screen potential employees for criminal background--fraud, theft, etc?
9. Do they do drug testing screening on employees?
10. Do they check past work references of prospective employees?
11. Do food service employers have health screening physicals for food handling employees so employee not a TB carrier or infected with some communiable disease?
12. Are hospitality workers trained in sanitation and disease prevention?
13. Do they keep accurate books and payroll records?
14. Are employees paid by check or cash?
15. Are proper taxes withheld for each employee?
16. Are employees given breaks and lunch time?

BESIDES PAYING SLAVE WAGES....EVERY POINT IN YOUR POST ARE ADDITIONAL REASONS WHY EMPLOYERS PREFER TO HIRE ILLEGALS. NO RULES....JUST LIKE IN MEXICO. I SAY EVERYONE OF THEM THAT COMPLAINS SHOULD HAVE THEIR BUSINESS LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR 10 DAYS. THEY ARE HIRING ILLEGALS OTHERWISE THE LAW WOULD NOT MATTER TO THEM. AND IF THEY CANT STAY IN BUSINESS WITHOUT BREAKING THE LAW, THEN THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS AT ALL.
"What if some of my best guys turn out to be illegal?" said Lisa Galvan, who runs five Luna de Noche restaurants in the Dallas area and employs 200 workers. "It is scary."
Your darn right it's scary. It's scary that people like you continue to refuse to obey the law. It's scary we have people like you in this country that put making a buck ahead of the law.
If they turn out to be illegal you fire them! Since when does being a good worker superseed the requirement of obeying the law.
