COCHISE COUNTY - More records about the investigation into the murder of a Southern Arizona rancher have now been released. Robert Krentz was gunned down on his property near Douglas in March of 2010.

Investigators initially believed a scout for drug smugglers was to blame but the case remains open.

Krentz's wife, Sue didn't want the files released saying her privacy outweighed the public's right to know. Judge Charles Irwin wrote in the minute entry, he found her rights were being protected. He also found that the Cochise County Sheriff's office was protecting the victim's by redacting information.

The 300 page report also contained four discs containing 500 pictures. The reports date from March 27, 2010 to the last report filed June 2012 . That report was about a DNA sample of a cigarette butt collected in Mexico on May 30, 2012. It was taken to the Arizona Department of Public Safety lab for examination. It was compared to DNA previously collected from the suspect. The results show it wasn't a match.

Investigators were able to tie the suspect in several burglaries in Portal to the Krentz murder. A shoe print pattern and size was at all of the locations.

During the burglary various items were taken from the freezer and then discarded. DNA was obtained from several of those items and are on file.

Also in the mounds of paper work, a picture of two men taken by U.S. Fish and Wildlife cameras in the area of Black Draw, the vicinity where Krentz was murdered.

The report mentions anywhere between 30 to 50 persons of interest. Mexican authorities are also mentioned helping in the investigation by questioning possible suspects, and even getting DNA samples and bringing them to investigators.
