Chaos erupts at Cantor election night headquarters after his departure

Immigration reform supporters crash Rep. Cantor’s election watch party after he leaves the ballroom.

RICHMOND — As if the political drama were not powerful enough, chaos erupted at election night headquarters shortly after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor conceded his stunning defeat to tea party-backed conservative David Brat.

Cantor addressed his supporters for about four minutes at a suburban Richmond hotel ballroom, then boarded an SUV without taking questions from reporters scurrying after him.

Then it got really rambunctious. In the room of downcast Cantor allies, a new energy suddenly erupted — but not the kind they wanted on election night. A group of immigration activists stormed the ballroom, screaming and waving a flag. “What do we want? Immigration reform! When do we want it? Now!”

A few Cantor supporters tried to block the protesters’ entrance into the ballroom, and pushing and shoving ensued.

And before they reached the microphone, one Cantor supporter threw his glass of wine at a female protester. She swore at him in return.

A hotel employee took the microphone Cantor had used and told the protesters in Spanish that the police were on their way.

Upon arrival, police told the protesters that they would be arrested if they did not leave immediately.

Another Spanish-speaking man who was with the protesters told them that they had made their point and should follow the police direction to leave.

They did so, but in the parking lot a Cantor supporter yelled, “Get a job!” to an immigration reform advocate who was wrapped in an American flag.

Tea Party is Dead? Try Telling Eric Cantor That..

Posted by Rodney Lee Conover on Jun 10, 2014 in Breaking Stories

“… Amnesty.. is such a lonely word..”

Reports of the Tea Party’s Death are greatly exaggerated – by Rodney Lee Conover
Eric Cantor, the Republican House Majority leader from Virginia just got his ass handed to him by a barely funded Tea Party candidate who was said to not have a chance against the powerful and highly funded Cantor – but guess what? See ya’!
Cantor got his ass primaried after pushing for Amnesty and meeting with the evil “Main Street Republican Partnership” Super PAC, whose sole purpose is to destroy Tea Party candidates and send conservative Republicans the message their input is no longer welcome, now that establishment Republicans have things under control.
    From the AP:
In an upset for the ages, Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, the second-most powerful man in the House, was dethroned Tuesday by a little-known, tea party-backed Republican primary challenger carried to victory on a wave of public anger over calls for looser immigration laws.

“This is a miracle from God that just happened,” exulted David Brat, an economics professor, as his victory became clear in the congressional district around Virginia’s capital city.

Speaking to downcast supporters, Cantor conceded, “Obviously we came up short” in a bid for renomination to an eighth term. The victory was by far the biggest of the 2014 campaign season for tea party forces, although last week they forced veteran Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran into a June 24 runoff, and hop State Sen. Chris McDaniel can prevail then. Cantor’s defeat was the first primary setback for a senior leader in Congress in recent years.

The outcome may well mark the end of Cantor’s political career, and aides did not respond Tuesday night when asked if the majority leader, 51, would run a write-in campaign in the fall. But its impact on the fate of immigration legislation in the current Congress seemed clearer still. Conservatives will now be emboldened in their opposition to legislation to create a path to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally, and party leaders who are more sympathetic to such legislation will likely be less willing to try.

The majority leader had been tugged by two warring forces in his party and in recent weeks sought to emphasize his opposition to far-reaching immigration legislation as Brat’s challenge gained force. Last month, a feisty crowd of Brat supporters booed Cantor in front of his family at a local party convention. Still, neither he nor other House leaders betrayed any serious concern that his tenure was in danger, and his allies leaked a private poll in recent days that claimed he had a comfortable lead over Brat. In the end, despite help from establishment groups, Cantor’s repudiation was complete in an area that first sent him to Congress in 2000.

“Tonight is a major victory for the Tea Party as they yet again pull the Republican Party further to the radical right,” said Nancy Pelosi. “As far as the midterms elections are concerned, it’s a whole new ballgame.”
You got that right you wicked witch. You remember what happened in 2010, right? This is only the beginning you lovers of ObamaCare and Amnesty… brace yourseves!

Immigration protest erupts at Eric Cantor's election rally

Immigration activists stormed Eric Cantor's election rally, rubbing salt in the wound of the House majority leader's stunning primary defeat

    Eric Cantor. UPI/Debbie Hill

WASHINGTON, June 10 (UPI) --In the end, it was immigration that brought Eric Cantor down. And in the moments following the House majority leader's stunned concession speech Tuesday night, immigration dealt Cantor one last parting blow.

Cantor spoke about four minutes after learning he had been defeated by tea partier Dave Brat in the race for the Virginia 7th District.

As Cantor left the Richmond hotel where his supporters, who had come expecting a party, stood stunned, immigration activists pushed their way into the ballroom to rub salt in the wound.

"What do we want? Immigration reform!" the shouted, waving an American flag. "When do we want it? Now!"

The Cantor supporters tried to block the activists from entering the room, with one woman tossing his glass of wine at a protestor.

As the protesters made their way to the microphone, a hotel employee told them police were on the way. When the cops arrived, they warned the protesters they'd be arrested if they didn't leave. Then, as the protesters filed out, someone in the parking lot yelled "Get a job!" to an immigration activist wrapped in a flag.

Cantor's loss also makes it even more unlikely that immigration reform will pass in the House this term, as his position on the issue is seen as the likely reason for his loss, despite his efforts to position himself as a far-right conservative deeply opposed to amnesty for undocumented immigrants.

Some rank-and-file House Republicans had indicated their willingness to vote for the bill that passed the Senate last year, but with Cantor's loss, that tenuous support will likely evaporate.

Brat was able to successfully position Cantor as pro-amnesty, even as Cantor was blamed by Democrats as the primary obstacle to the passage of immigration in the House.

added to the homepage with the following note...

ALIPAC NOTE: This picture is worth a thousand words! Illegal aliens and their supporters have no respect for Americans or the American way of doing things! These political actors were probably staged and ready to come make their point during a Cantor victory speech and went on with the show not realizing or caring that Cantor just lost! These are the people that will be running America if politicians like Cantor, Boehner, Rubio, Lindsey Graham etc.. ever pass immigration reform amnesty into law.

Defeated U.S. House Majority Leader Cantor was amnesty-backers' top hope for this year

Immigration was the key issue in what numerous national commentators are indicating was one of the biggest political upsets in congressional history. David Brat was incredibly outspent and little known, but defeated the man who most Congress observers expected to be the next Speaker of the House.

Eric Cantor lost to an immigration True Reformer last night. The New Republic takes a look at the historic upset in "The GOP just got a wake-up call," by Jonathan Cohn. Please submit your comments.
    Cohn writes:
The obvious explanation for Cantors defeat is immigration. And in this case, the obvious explanation is probably right. Brat hammered Cantor for his supposed support of amnesty. Cantor swore the charge was untrue and, lord knows, he wasn't doing anything to advance the cause of immigration reform publicly. It appears the voters didnt believe him.
But the Virginians who rejected Cantor may have been rejecting more than his position on immigration. Brats campaign portrayed Cantor as a creature of Washington and an ally of special interests, particularly those representing the financial industry. "Another power-hungry Washington insider" is how one advertisement described him.
[SIZE=4][FONT=Helvetica Neue]These aren't necessarily separate issues. The corporate fat cats and their lobbyists all lined up behind immigration expansion to depress wages. They are lobbying for more foreign workers even as they lay off Americans. Eric Cantor took the corporatist%2
