Sessions sends more immigration judges, prosecutors to border; tells caravan: 'People should wait their turn'
By Samuel Chamberlain | Fox News
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Wednesday that the Justice Department was sending dozens of additional prosecutors and immigration judges to the U.S.-Mexico border to pursue cases against illegal border crossers while warning members of a controversial "caravan" that they "should wait their turn" to enter the U.S.
According to Sessions, 35 assistant U.S. attorneys would go to the frontier to "prosecute illegal entries into our country" while 18 immigration judges would focus "full-time" on clearing a backlog of asylum claims.
"We are not going to let this country be overwhelmed," Sessions told reporters in Washington. "People are not going to caravan or otherwise stampede our border. We need legality and integrity in the system. People should wait their turn, ask to apply lawfully before they enter our country."
Sessions spoke after 28 members of a caravan of Central Americans seeking asylum in the United States were accepted for processing by U.S. border inspectors at San Diego's San Ysidro crossing.
The caravan, which at times grew to more than 1,000 people, began winding its way toward the U.S. on March 25 and eventually incurred the wrath of President Trump, who repeatedly tweeted that it was a gross example of lax immigration laws.
As of Tuesday, about 140 migrants were still waiting in Mexico to turn themselves in at San Diego's San Ysidro border crossing, the nation's busiest, according to Alex Mensing, project organizer for Pueblo Sin Fronteras, which is leading the caravan.
Asylum-seekers are typically held up to three days at the border and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. If they pass initial screenings by asylum officers, they may be detained or released with ankle monitors while their cases wind through immigration court, which can take years.
The courts often conduct business behind closed doors. Files are not public, and, unlike criminal or civil courts, access for journalists and others is limited.
When asked if the caravan members were subject to humanitarian concerns, Sessions answered: "We're treating people fine ... It’s not my problem. It’s not the United States Border Patrol’s problem when people try to force their way into the country unlawfully."
"The numbers have been increasing again heading into the summer," Sessions said, "and we want the world to know ... that we have a generous legal system for immigration. We admit 1.1 million people lawfully every year and those people should wait their turn."

AG Sessions Adds 35 Attorneys, 18 Judges to Process Immigrants
By Cathy Burke | Wednesday, 02 May 2018 03:43 PM
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is sending 35 assistant U.S. attorneys and 18 immigration judges to the Mexican border to deal with a surge in illegal immigrants — as a caravan of Central Americans seeking asylum camps out at an entry point to the United States.
"We are not going to let this country be overwhelmed," Sessions told reporters Wednesday. "People are not going to caravan or otherwise stampede our borders.
"We need legality and integrity in the system. People should wait their turn, ask to apply lawfully before they enter our country."
"We're sending a message worldwide: 'Don't come illegally. Make your claim to enter America in the lawful way and wait your turn.'"
Sessions called the U.S. entry system for legal immigration is "generous."
"The numbers have been increasing again," he said. "We want them to know . . . that we have a generous legal system for legal immigration . . . and those people should wait their turn."
Dozens of Hondurans, Guatemalans, and Salvadorans slept a third night outside the U.S. port of entry in Tijuana, Mexico, after traveling in a caravan across some 2,500 miles across Mexico to seek U.S. asylum.
Sessions noted the 18 immigration judges that will function "full-time" on moving asylum cases is a 50-percent increase over the current number of judges who handle it.
Sessions said these would be supervisory judges who do not have existing case loads, in order to keep immigration cases moving.
The Justice Department has already taken action to stop those from seeking asylum, charging 11 people crossing the border illegally after finding them Monday night.
Officials say 10 of them come from countries associated with the caravan.
Sessions previously referred to the caravan as "a deliberate attempt to undermine our laws and overwhelm our system."
According to CBS News, caravans from Central America have been making the journey to the border since 2008, but President Donald Trump has focused on the current surge as a reason for ramping up immigration enforcement.
Honduras, thought they were just going to walk right through Mexico and right through the border," Trump said, CBS News reported.
Since then, Trump signed a proclamation directing the National Guard to be deployed to provide military presence along the border in order to "secure" the southern border and halt the flow of drugs and people into the United States.

Put them on shifts
7am - 3pm
3pm - 11pm
11pm - 7am
Process, reject and have buses deporting them back to Central America 24/7
They were offered asylum in Mexico. They refused it...therefore REJECT all of them!
No fancy plane ride. Hire the same "chartered buses" that brought them to the border. I am sure they will gladly load them up and take the bus fares.
Deduct the costs for the foreign aid we give Mexico AND Central America! Hit them both in the pocketbook.
NO MORE FOREIGN AID AND DUMP YOUR PEOPLE ON US TOO!ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL
