U.S. senator battles DOT program allowing Mexican trucks in U.S.

WASHINGTON – A senator wants Congress’ investigative arm to determine whether the Transportation Department has broken the law by spending federal money on a program allowing Mexican trucks on U.S. roads.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., called for the investigation by the General Accountability Office a few hours after Transportation Secretary Mary Peters warned of economic losses if Mexican trucks are prohibited from driving deep into the U.S.

Peters has been fighting in court to prevent the program’s end. But Dorgan and others say Congress prohibited spending money on the program last year.

“When Congress passes a law that says no funds can be used for this program, we mean no funds can be used for this program,â€

If Mexico doesn't have to agree to take measures to keep their Nationals in Mexico and respect our rights as a sovereign nation, then why do we have to respect any of the conditions of the NAFTA trade agreement? They know their nationals should not be illegally entering the country YET they continue to ignore and exploit themselves. We certainly don't see a hoard of Americans wanting to go to Mexico to live and if Americans were to be caught illegally on their soil, they'd pay the criminal price.


Mexico needs to get a life. There are a lot of Mexican Farmers WHO WANT THE NAFTA AGREEMENT TO END, TOO
