Police Make Possible Illegal Immigration Bust
9 Men With No Identification Found Inside Van

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A traffic stop for a broken headlight turned into a possible immigration bust for Metro police overnight.

A van was stopped just after midnight on Interstate 24 East near Briley Parkway.

Officers ran the license plate of the vehicle and discovered the federal government had an alert out on the van.

Police said inside they found nine illegal immigrants and $2,000 in cash comma and said a police dog smelled drug residue.

Authorities said none of the men spoke English nor had identification. Police believe the men could be part of an immigrant smuggling ring.

Davidson County recently joined a federal program that allows local authorities to jail possible illegal immigrants for the federal government.
