Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., has cancelled a visit Thursday to Miami, which he recently called "a third-world country" because of its large immigrant population. (Post)Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo has cancelled his visit to Miami on Thursday because of threats he has received, according to CBS News in Miami.
Tancredo, a Republican from Littleton, was scheduled to make a speech, entitled "Renewing America: The Need for Assimilation", to the Key Biscayne Rotary Club in Miami.
But the restaurant where Tancredo was to speak said today it didn't want him to appear on Thursday. The restaurant said some of the staff objected to working the party.
The Rotarians invited Tancredo to speak to them after he criticized Miami by calling it "a third-world country" because of the large number of immigrants living there.
He said that immigrants who came to Miami, both legal and illegal, have not learned English and live in insular communities with high crime rates and low high school graduation rates. That has made parts of the city and surrounding areas like a Third World country, he said.
Tancredo first made the Third World country remark last month while visiting southern Florida. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, among others, criticized Tancredo by saying, "What a nut."
Tancredo picked the Rotary Club among other invitations to come to Miami because the club agrees with him about conditions in Miami, said Tancredo spokesman Carlos Espinosa.
The Rotary Club did not respond to a reporter's message.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

There may be more to this than some upset employees. Could be a security issue.
I recently asked someone who frequents Florida about Miami and was told it 'is like being in a foreign country.' And I've heard others from Florida say similar things. Tom speaks the truth, he isn't afraid to, unlike most politicians.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

I live in Miami and it is a third world country in my eyes. When people come up to you speaking only Spanish or when you go to a grocery store and say excuse me and they stare at you it shows that they don't respect this country or the rest of us. What annoys me is that when I turn around and speak Russian in front of them as they are not speaking English, they give me dirty looks and they do the same to French Canadians who speak French. Then you have them selling water, soda, and flowers on street corners. They county bylaw officers are constantly after some of them as you need a permit to do so and have to follow rules.
As for the restaurant staff, most likely many are Hispanic and don't want to look bad in their community. Another two facts are that many restaurants and clubs hire illegals, and many legal Hispanics have no problems assisting illegals from their country or a neighboring one.
To be perfectly honest with you this would have also been a security nightmare for police. It would be similar to the security for a presidential visit due to him voicing his opinion. You would require the restaurant be check by bomb sniffing dogs, police escorts everywhere he went, possible road closures and police screening at the restaurant. Then you would need police present at the areas where the protesters are to avoid clashes with those who disagree with them. Then you would have aviation up observing everything and Marine Patrol as the restaurant is accessible by boat. This would be a great expense to the taxpayers but even so to me it would have been worth hearing him.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Perhaps Tencredo should think about having a telecon. He could still get his message across.
I agree Swatchick, I hadn't been in Miami for over 20 years and when I was there a few months ago it was like a third world country.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Well this only goes to show what these illegals are causing our country to become, this only strengthens and confirms what Tom said about Miami being a "third world country."

It's just as well. If you were them, would you want to eat the food? I'm sure it would have been tampered with.
