SAN DIEGO — Jesus Navarro Montes had one thing on his mind as he barreled through the Imperial County desert in a drug-laden Hummer with Border Patrol agents in pursuit: Don’t get caught.
It was that singular focus that ultimately led to the death of a Border Patrol agent who was run down during Navarro’s attempt to flee back into Mexico the morning of Jan. 19, 2008, federal prosecutors argued Tuesday.
