Conservative leaders are saying President-elect Donald Trump will be held to his campaign promises about immigration policy, according to The Hill.



"This was, along with trade, the issue that allowed Donald Trump to mow down 16 other viable and talented and capable contenders in the primary process," Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, told The Hill.



"Nobody can bring out, in rally after rally, Americans who lost loved ones because these immigration laws were not enforced … or Americans who lost jobs because of unfair labor displacement," and not follow through on his promises, he added.



According to The Hill, organizations like FAIR, NumbersUSA and the Center for Immigration Studies, are calling on Trump to reject Rep. Michael McCaul as a candidate for Homeland Security secretary because they believe he would be too close to the Republican establishment to go along with their ideas for immigration reform.



Stein and Mark Krikorian, executive director of the CIS, say McCaul has supported "weak" immigration proposals.
Krikorian said those who support immigrants, the "anti-borders activists," have grown stronger under President Barack Obama's administration and the Homeland Security chief must push back.



"There are going to be human chains around (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) offices. It's going to be that kind of violent opposition. And I hope whoever is DHS secretary won't go wobbly," he said.



McCaul, a Texas Republican, is close with House Speaker Paul Ryan, The Hill notes, and one source close to Sen. Jeff Sessions, Trump's attorney general nominee said, "You could choose an establishment person for any position but that one."
Trump supporters believe Ryan, Vice President-elect Mike Pence and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who are seen as allies politically, could exert too much influence over Trump on immigration issues.
McCaul's spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow told The Hill he "stands staunchly against any form of amnesty" and he also wants to cut off funding to sanctuary cities.
Trump's allies want Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to lead Homeland Security because of his hard-line stance on immigration. Supporters say Kobach would work to limit legal as well as illegal immigration.


Some churches across the U.S. said they would, if necessary, become sanctuaries for illegal immigrants, according to The Daily Beast.


California lawmakers are looking ahead to Trump's potential deportation plans, introducing measures to protect undocumented immigrants, Fortune reported.

Let anyone who gets in the way lose their jobs and lose their Federal funding, including Churches lose their tax-exempt status and be fined!

How in the world did ALIPAC get left out of this list of groups fighting against McCaul when we were in the national media so extensively this past week???

Alipac should have been included. They certainly got the attention of Rep. McCaul and others.

Alipac has recently been quoted in Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, and other media sources. They could send a response to Joe Crowe (writer) on the plans by the GOP, Paul Ryan, and the history of Rep. McCaul ( with grades) on amnesty.

Retired four-star Marine Gen. John Kelly, the former head of U.S. Southern Command, who has met with president-elect Trump several times in recent weeks, has emerged as a strong contender for secretary of homeland security, ABC News has learned.

Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has been another contender.

Kelly's name was confirmed by multiple senior Trump transition sources as garnering serious consideration.

The DHS position has been one of the trickiest to fill: the agency is one of the largest in the federal government and is one of the most challenging posts, given the broad and evolving security threats.

Gen. John Kelly seen as leading contender for DHS

Retired Marine General John Kelly has emerged as the top contender to lead President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, according to three sources close to the transition.

Kelly, 66, whose military career spanned more than four decades, retired earlier this year as the chief of U.S. Southern Command. In that post, where he oversaw military operations in most of Central and South America, he publicly clashed with the Obama administration on its plans – which were never executed – to close Guantanamo Bay and dismissed as “foolishness” concerns that the military’s treatment of detainees at the facility had cost the U.S. the moral high ground in the War on Terror.

At the Department of Homeland Security, a massive bureaucracy created in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Kelly would become a key player in Trump's plans to secure the border and crack down on illegal immigration. The president-elect campaigned on a plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and to swiftly deport undocumented immigrants guilty of crimes.

His addition to the Trump administration would likely have implications on candidates for remaining cabinet posts. If formally offered the position, Kelly would be the third general tapped by the president-elect, in addition to Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who will serve as Trump’s national security adviser, and retired Gen. James Mattis, who Trump said Thursday he intended to nominate as his Defense Secretary. Concerns about the number of military officials in Trump’s cabinet may harm the prospects of another military man, retired Gen. David Petraeus, whom Trump is considering for secretary of state.

A Trump transition spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.

During the campaign between Trump and Hillary Clinton, Kelly said he'd be willing to serve in either administration. But unlike other notable high-ranking former military officials like Flynn and Gen. John Allen, the retired four star general never endorsed a candidate. Whoever won, Kelly said, shouldn't doubt they're “getting anything but the absolute best military advice, completely devoid of politics.”

“It adds to this mistrust issue...if suddenly a guy retires and says, ‘I think this administration is doing all the wrong things for all the wrong reasons,’” Kelly told Foreign Policy about endorsing a candidate.

Kelly’s son 2nd Lt. Robert M. Kelly died in 2010 when he stepped on a landmine on a tour of duty in southern Afghanistan, and Kelly remains one of the most senior U.S. military officers to lose a son or daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan. He has also opposed the Obama administration’s decision to open combat roles to women.

Kelly enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970 and was discharged two years later. He was then commissioned as an officer in 1976. He served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and was a military aide to both Defense Secretaries Robert Gates and Leon Panetta.

Kelly served with distinction throughout his career. Upon the occasion of his retirement in 2013, Aaron MacLean wrote in THE WEEKLY STANDARD of Kelly's lifetime of service. Here's an excerpt:

Like these men, Kelly would earn four stars, capping a career that began with his enlisting in the ranks in 1970, followed later by college and a commission. After Baghdad fell, he was appointed to lead an ad hoc force that continued north to seize Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's hometown. When the 1st Marine Division returned to Iraq in 2004, he helped oversee some of the fiercest fighting of the war in Ramadi and Fallujah, before returning to the country for a third time in 2008, now commanding all Marines in Anbar and seeing the "Awakening" there through to its successful conclusion.

Despite the remarkable accomplishments of the units he headed, Marines who know Kelly say they cannot remember him ever taking credit. Inspired by his example, Kelly's two sons, John and Robert, followed him into the Marines. The Kelly family was not an anomaly: It is increasingly unusual for someone serving in the military not to have been preceded by a father or other close relative.

Robert—who enlisted immediately after graduating college and became an infantry officer—deployed to Afghanistan as a platoon commander at the peak of the fighting in Helmand Province. Before dawn on November 9, 2010, General Kelly opened the door to his home at the Washington Navy Yard to see Joe Dunford, then serving as the Corps's assistant commandant, standing on the porch in his service uniform. Robert, said by a Marine who served closely with him to be "just like his father," someone who "was humble, knew his trade, was physically fit, tough as nails, charismatic, funny," someone who had "a genuine concern for the well-being of Marines," had been killed in Sangin.

Notifications of families of Marines killed in action are always done in person, and Dunford had decided to tell Kelly himself. What came next was, if possible, worse—as Kelly later put it to a reporter from the Washington Post, "I then did the most difficult thing I've done in my life. I walked upstairs, woke Karen to the news, and broke her heart."

Kelly had earned the terrible distinction of being the most senior American officer to lose a child in Iraq or Afghanistan, and not a soul would have begrudged him taking some time. But November is when the Marine Corps celebrates its birthday, and Kelly had been invited to speak at a celebration in St. Louis four days after. He attended, and there delivered one of the most powerful American speeches of the last decade and a half of war.

Even though most in attendance knew about his loss, as a courtesy it was not mentioned by the officer introducing him, who opened instead with the jaunty anecdote, "Let me share my favorite line from General Kelly when we were in Iraq. .  .  . 'We're the United States Marine Corps. We took Iwo Jima. Baghdad ain't s—.' " Taking the podium to raucous applause, Kelly drew a clear moral line from 9/11 through to the fights in both Afghanistan and Iraq: "Our enemy fights for an ideology based on an irrational hatred of who you are. Make no mistake about that no matter what certain elements of our 'chattering class' relentlessly churn out." Kelly expressed dismay about weak support for the war, and about how small the proportion of Americans who served was, before turning to the character of the current generation of Marines.

Trump made a comment tonight at the Fayetteville rally about his pick for Secretary of DHS that leads me to think he's going to nominate Gen. Kelly, Trump also said his administration will be known as the administration that "ended illegal immigration into the United States".

Trump's smart, he knows what's got to be done and it takes a certain type of person and knowledge to get done what must be done.

So many names are thrown around back and forth...we just want this nightmare ended and these people turned right back around to the nearest border they illegally crossed.

No more catch and release. No more detention...deport within 24 hours. All unaccompanied minor's should be handed over into the care and custody of THEIR Embassy for deportation, let their President find their parents and relatives.

Mexico, Central America and whatever their country of origin should put them in Safe Zone on their soil. Not ours!

I agree illegal immigration was a major reason why Donald Trump got elected, he shall not ignore the will of the American people who voted him into office. They will be going back.

The appointment coming up of General Kelly, a 4 Star General, to head Department of Homeland Security tells me Trump is very serious about ending illegal immigration in the United States under Executive Authority. 4 Star Generals are tactical strategists, they know how to move people quickly, quietly and efficiently. I don't think we'll be disappointed.
