Nearly Half of Residents in America’s Largest Cities Speak a Foreign Language

    19 Sep 2018

Nearly half of residents in America’s top five largest cities speak a foreign language at home, a new study by the Center for Immigration Studies reveals.

Researchers Steven Camarotta and Karen Zeigler analyzed data from the Census Bureau, finding that more than 48 percent of residents in America’s largest cities — New York City, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Phoenix — speak a foreign language in the home instead of speaking English.

In Los Angeles, California, nearly 60 percent of residents speak a foreign language at home, while 49 percent speak a foreign language at home in New York City and Houston. In Chicago, about 36 percent of residents speak a foreign language at home and in Phoenix, about 38 percent speak a foreign language at home.

Between 1980 and 2017, Nevada had a 1,080 percent increase in the number of foreign speakers that live in the state, while Georgia experienced a 945 percent increase and North Carolina saw a 771 percent increase in the number of foreign speakers.

There are now more than 66.5 million residents in the United States that speak a language other than English at home.

As Breitbart News reported, America’s major cities are home to the majority of the more than 44 million foreign-born residents living in the country.

Those cities are enclaves of liberal and Democrat voters, as evidence in the 2016 presidential election where cities like New York City, Chicago, and Philadelphia, and regions like San Francisco voted strongly for candidate Hillary Clinton.

Every year, the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million legal immigrants. In 2017, the foreign-born population boomed to a 108-year record high, making up nearly 14 percent of the total U.S. population. By 2023, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the legal and illegal immigrant population of the U.S. will make up nearly 15 percent of the entire U.S. population.

It's horrible. We so need to reduce these legal immigration numbers and stop chain migration and visa lottery. What is going on is unspeakable, no pun intended.

Tower of Babel. Common language = cohesion.

So true GeorgiaPeach, uncommon language = great division, confusion, disagreement, conflicts. It's so sad what we've allowed these immigration proponents to do to our poor beleaguered country and citizens.

We're overwhelmed. I knew this when I first got involved in our cause and did my research. It's a terrible dilemma for our citizens because what needs to be done goes against our good-natures to do. I knew 13 years ago that solving these problems would be the hardest thing the American people have ever had to face and deal with.

That's why any diplomatic solution like economic sanctions, Judy's Plan B for example, and possibly other diplomatic options as well should be pursued, pursued now and pursued vigorously, particularly in regards to illegal immigration. There is power in these sanctions, they will work extremely well and easy on this particular problem and won't involve American citizens on our soil, they will only involve actions and efforts in the home countries on their soil at their end at the source by their citizens upon citizens of their own countries responsible for illegal immigration into the United States. There will be impacts here, but ironically, they will be positive for US, we'll actually make money!

So, it's like turning a lemon into lemonade.

Economic sanctions seldom achieve the desired effect. What you're calling for will only bring more illegals here. Making life in their country tougher than it already is will have them running, not walking, to the United States. Furthermore, Mexico and the Central American countries need the remittances to continue, hence will do nothing to stop their citizens from leaving for the United State, even if they could, which they can't. Remittances are bringing billions of dollars into these countries. Mexico alone receives over 25 billion dollars annually from remittances alone.

Besides all that, not all of the foreign speaking folks in these cities are illegal aliens.

You're right that we need to end chain-migration. We also need to end the refugee program, reduce worker visas, create an entry/exit system for visas holders and above all else secure our porous borders!

Most of us have long wanted to end remittances to Mexico. Economic sanctions would do that.

In my opinion, the only way we're going to end the illegal alien remittances is to clear our country of the 20-30 million folks residing here illegally. Economic sanctions will not end remittances because the illegals will just get more creative in sending them.
