Trump, Carson top latest S.C. GOP poll
September 25, 2015
By Cooper Allen 3 hours ago
In a Republican presidential field that includes former and current southern governors and South Carolina’s senior U.S. senator, a new poll shows a billionaire real estate developer from New York with a commanding lead in the Palmetto State.
A Monmouth University poll out Tuesday finds Donald Trump leading among South Carolina Republicans with 30% support, followed by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 15%. No other candidates register in double digits.
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has sparred repeatedly with Trump in recent weeks, is well behind at 4%.
Reacting on Twitter to the latest survey showing his strong standing in the 2016 race, Trump wasn’t exactly magnanimous — not that you’d expect anything less.

Congrats @LindseyGrahamSC. You just got 4 points in your home state of SC—far better than zero nationally. You’re only 26 pts behind me.

He said of Trump’s remarks: “If that’s OK, you better accept the consequences of that being OK because we are going to lose!”

Lindsey Graham had some violent words for Donald Trump Tuesday, saying, “come to South Carolina and I’ll beat his brains out.”
Graham, appearing on CNN’s “At This Hour,” argued that if Donald Trump is the Republican nominee, it will be the “end of the Republican Party.”
Lindsey Graham: If he becomes the nominee, we’ll get killed.
Kate Bolduan: You may say it’s not sustainable, but it surely has sustained. Just look at the latest poll, this one coming out from Monmouth University. I know you saw this one. He not only has a sizable lead, we’ll throw it up there, 30 percent, it’s not just a lead anywhere, it’s in South Carolina. It’s in your home state.
Graham: I won 56 percent of my primary against six opponents. There’s 30 percent of my primary electorate that believes that Obama is a Muslim, that he was born in Kenya, and that would deport everybody. They’re frustrated. I’m just saying that the policies that Mr. Trump is proposing are demagoguery. His approach to describing legal immigrants are hurting us with Hispanics. The way he attacks women is going to be a death blow to the future of our party. Come to South Carolina and I’ll beat his brains out. I know my state. This is a silly season in politics. To say that you’re going to go to Iraq and Syria and take their oil and use it for our benefit as a way to destroy ISIL is insanely dangerous. you’re going to turn everybody into the Middle East against America if you do that, you won’t destroy ISIL. That will be his undoing.
Bolduan: Can you win the nomination without, in your strategy, can you win the nomination without winning South Carolina?
Graham: No, I’m going to win South Carolina. I have to do well in New Hampshire.
Bolduan: Yes.
Graham: I got to do well in New Hampshire. If I do well in New Hampshire, I’ll win my state. Here is what will not happen, Donald Trump is not going to be the nominee of the Republican Party. If he is, that’s the end of the Republican party because who he is doing…
Bolduan: So if he is, what do you do?
Graham: Well then we’ll lose. We’ll lose, and we should lose. 65 percent of the Hispanic community in this country, legal Hispanics, find Mr. Trump offensive. I find him offensive. When he attacks Megyn Kelly, a lot of young women think, well, why would you do that? I find that offensive? where is the party leadership? Is that our position as a party?

Lindsey is defending Megan Kelly and illegal aliens and calling South Carolians "frustrated".
Yeah, I'm sure South Carolinians are as frustrated as the rest of the country, Lindsey, because people like you frustrate us. So, we're not going to vote for you.
We are the Party, not you. When we elect a nominee, the party has decided by a majority of its members, not you, not your DC Insiders, not your "strategists". The members decide what our party is going to do, what we are going to be, and that's the way it is. We're not your tool, Lindsey, we were your constituents.

How in the world is Carson getting traction in South Carolina? Is it simply because he is not considered a political insider or is it something else?
