Love him or hate him, most people agree on one thing. President Trump does what he thinks is in the best interest of the United States.
For example, Trump favors a wall on our southern border to control immigration from the south. Democrats have gone on record for years against illegal immigration. Now they say no to Trump's plan.
Trump withdrew from the Paris accord because it penalized the U.S. while allowing China carte blanche. Has anyone breathed the air in China? If any country needs environmental reform, it's China.
Our previous federal corporate income tax rate was 35 percent. Many of our large employers were moving part or all of their operations to foreign countries where the rates were lower (e.g., Ireland, 10% and the UK, 19%). Trump lowered the rate to 21 percent and now the outflow has stopped, and there are indications that some companies may move here. Of course, no Democrats voted in favor of the tax bill.
North Korea was one of our major threats in 2017. While it is not solved, we're talking. That's more than we got out of Presidents Clinton, Bush, or Obama.
One of the major blunders of past administrations has been our failures in dealing with Iran. We have gotten nowhere by being nice. At least now, with the reinstitution of sanctions, they have to concentrate on dissension at home rather than fomenting revolution elsewhere.
There are certainly many who feel that the president is callous, crass and brash. Certainly everyone is tired of the torrent of tweets. But Trump is our president; and no matter our party affiliation, we should give him some breathing room. He is doing what he thinks is right, and so far, the results are good.
