Trump Sends Fewer Mexicans Home Despite Deportation Talk

    • Mexican data show 26% fewer Mexicans repatriated Jan-Nov 2017
    • Trump has vowed to expell millions of undocumented immigrants

Trump Says 'Chain Migration' and Visa Lottery Will End

President Donald Trump sent 26 percent fewer Mexicans back home this year through November than Barack Obama did in the same period in 2016, despite vows to crack down on illegal immigration, Mexican government data show.

About 152,000 Mexican nationals were repatriated from the U.S. between January and November, according to data from Mexico’s Interior Ministry that were first reported by Milenio newspaper. That compares with just under 205,000 in the first 11 months of 2016.

Trump, who took office Jan. 20, has vowed to expel potentially millions of undocumented immigrants and to build a wall along the Mexican border. He also ended, at least temporarily, Obama-era protections against deportation of people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. Officials at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pointed to their statistics when asked for comment.

An ICE report of data through early October showed that removals of Mexican nationals were down, but administrative arrests of all immigrants were up 30 percent in fiscal year 2017. It concludes that the decrease in removal numbers overall compared to fiscal year 2016 was primarily due to about 17 percent fewer migrants apprehended at the border.

The Mexican government defines repatriation as an administrative measure dictated by migration officials through which a foreign person is returned to their country of origin.

DOJ is responsible for deportation hearings and deportation orders. That's Jeff Sessions responsibility.

Sessions can only work with what he has and to that end he is making huge improvements at the DOJ with many policy changes.

I know you don't want to hear this and would prefer to deflect all responsibility and accountability away from President Trump, but ultimately the responsibility rest with our lawmakers and the President of the United States. I won't deny that Sessions has a major role, but his job effectiveness is limited by the authority and resources granted by Trump and U.S. Congress.

IMO, it's just silly to blame what may be considered an inadequate DOJ on Jeff Sessions. The man has been working tenaciously over the last 11 months
to straighten out a department that has been woefully lacking and poorly funded for quite some time now.

Under the Bush and Obama administrations, the agencies responsible for immigration enforcement (under the Department of Homeland Security) got a bunch more money to apprehend and deport a bunch more immigrants. But the agency in charge of immigration courts, under the Department of Justice, didn’t get the same kind of funding boost to process those cases.

Hopefully this situation will soon improve now that Jeff Sessions is hiring more immigration court judges. However, with the way the immigration courts are set up, I don't expect huge inroads overnight. It took many years to create a docket with an over 500,000 backlog and that number isn't going to magically vanish until the process changes. Sessions is currently doing his part to change what he can with the authority he has and funding allocated to him.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but my opinion is when I have managers and they aren't getting their job done, they're held accountable for that, not me. Maybe yours and JD2's work experience were different than mine, I never worked anywhere that I could fail to do my job and blame my boss for it. I've also been a boss and had people work for me, when they screwed up I didn't blame myself for it and no one did either, they blamed the person whose job it was to do something and didn't do it. In my world, that gets you fired or put on notice with a warning.

It's funny how you guys think. It really is!!

    LOL!!!

    Good-bye, MW.
