Donald Trump, Paul Ryan don’t see eye to eye on deportation

By Bradford Richardson - The Washington Times - Sunday, November 13, 2016

Donald Trump and Paul Ryan are taking contrasting tones on deporting illegal immigrants in the wake of the general election, with the president-elect continuing his talk tough and the House speaker sounding more willing to compromise.

In an interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes” set to air Sunday night, Mr. Trump promised to deport immediately 2 million or 3 million undocumented immigrants he views as criminals.

“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records — gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably 2 million, it could be even 3 million — we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” Mr. Trump said. “But we’re getting them out of our country, they’re here illegally.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Ryan attempted to alleviate concerns on Sunday that Mr. Trump will establish a “deportation force” to round up illegal immigrants throughout the country.

“No, securing the border is our top priority,” Mr. Ryan said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “That’s why I say, we’re not focused on — we are not planning on erecting a deportation force. Donald Trump is not planning on that.”

Both men seemed to agree that any immigration plan has to start with securing the border.

“After the border is secure and after everything gets normalized, we’re going to make a determination on the people that they’re talking about who are terrific people, they’re terrific people but we are gonna make a determination at that,” Mr. Trump said.

“But before we make that determination … it’s very important, we are going to secure our border.”

Mr. Trump also held fast to his promise to build a wall along the southern border. He said a fence would be sufficient for some areas, but not for others.

“For certain areas I would, but certain areas, a wall is more appropriate,” he said. “I’m very good at this, it’s called construction.”

This made me laugh. Yes, he certainly knows a thing or two about construction.

With Obama immigration control legislation simply got vetoed. So, this changes with Trump. Now, however, the GOP is weaker and more prone to a filibuster, but they will probably have to go to the simple majority vote and pick up a Democrat or two. They should work on getting Bernie Sanders on board with certain things. Even liberals don't seem to like the Chinese illegals coming in here. Hillary Clinton at the State dept. issued a statement that they were a danger.

Walls are just window dressing, a display to comfort the public. Without enforcement against illegal immigrants who are already here, any wall on any of the US borders is utterly pointless. Without enforcement against illegal immigrants, then all those illegals who make it in some other way have nothing to worry about. And if we don't deport the illegals already here, then those planning illegal immigration in the future will see they have nothing to worry about either, besides finding some other way to get in besides walking across the border.

The Chinese illegals, for example don't ever walk in from China, they come in other ways. "The Wall" to be "Paid for my Mexico" is, of course, only for our Southern Border. Meanwhile we have a border in the North that is just as easy to walk across. Chinese illegals frequently go to Canada first and then come in from the North. There are also shipping routes. And its not just the Chinese who ignore the Southern Border.

Another thing about the Southern Border is that crossing it successfully usually depends on Mexican organize crime and not everyone can use that. There can be language problems, money problems. Chinese illegals are usually already paying somebody in Chinese organized crime.

Here in the Northwest we have had forest fire lookout stations perched up on mountaintops. Some of them can see up to 20 miles away. There are a number of low mountain ranges on the US side of the border. With all of the latest equipment to detect motion and see things in the dark this should not be a major hurdle.
