A U.S. man who tried to cross the Canadian border with $92,000 in his car has been fined.

Last month, the 36-year-old was attempting to cross into Saskatchewan from Montana at the Regway border point.

The man didn't declare he had the money while he was in the primary inspection lane, but under further questioning he fessed up.

Officers seized $92,483 in U.S. currency, which at current conversion rates is worth $117,907. A photo from the Canadian Border Services Agency showed stacks of $100 bills.

Officers concluded the money was being used for legitimate purposes, so he got it back. The CBSA did not identify what the money was going to be used for.

However, he was penalized $2,500 for failing to report the currency and for making false statements in regards to its ownership.

  • switchblade knives from two U.S. men seeking entry into Canada at North Portal.
  • brass knuckles from a 30-year-old Georgia man moving to Alaska. (North Portal).
  • an overcapacity magazine from a 60-year-old U.S. man. (Regway).
  • two overcapacity magazines from a Florida man en route to Alaska (North Portal).
