Two men wanted in Arizona in separate homicide cases were captured Friday while trying to walk into the United States at international bridges in El Paso, Customs and Border Protection officials said Monday.

"These were fugitives who were wanted by law enforcement and posed a threat to the community," Luis Garcia, director of the agency's field operations in El Paso, said in a news release.

Alex Daniel Vasquez Fuentes, 29, was stopped when officers at the Paso del Norte Bridge asked for identification and he presented a birth certificate he later admitted was not his own, officials said.

In November, Vasquez-Fuentes, aka "Congo," allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend during an argument because she planned to return to Mexico, where her three small children lived, reported the Web site for KTAR-AM, an Arizona news radio station.

Also Friday, Jose Guadalupe Reveles Barbosa, 37, was captured at the Bridge of the Americas when a national crime computer search found he was wanted in Maricopa County, Ariz., on homicide/attempted second degree murder charges and for allegedly interfering with judicial proceedings, Customs and Border Protection officials said. Both men were turned over to El Paso police.
