Hundreds arrested in police crackdown on suspected foreign criminals

More than 700 people were arrested and 550 vehicles seized during a West Midlands Police-led national crackdown on suspected foreign offenders across the UK.

    Operation Trivium
was launched from a command centre in Birmingham and linked to European forces and associated agencies.

The operation, which ran from November 23-27, resulted in 97 arrests, 206 vehicles seized and 1,267 vehicles stopped in the West Midlands.

These included a 36 year-old man from Poland, who was convicted of murder in his homeland in 2004, and served a six-year jail term. He was arrested in the West Midlands and detained for deportation.

A 36-year-old man, also from Poland, was detained under a European Arrest Warrant in Harvills Hawthorn, West Bromwich, after fleeing his home country while on prison licence for fraud.

Supt Paul Keasey, European operations commander for Trivium, said: “This was the fifth running of Trivium and it proved a hugely successful operation involving the UK and eight other European nations.

“Officers across the West Midlands were involved in ANPR operations during the look-out for suspect vehicles, did roadside checkpoints, and supported immigration officials on visits to businesses suspected of employing foreign over-stayers.

“The number of arrests should send out a strong message that there is no hiding for criminals and the borders hold no barriers when it comes to bringing about justice.”

Police worked alongside immigration enforcement teams as part of Operation Trivium.

Claire Portlock, of the group’s West Midlands team, said:

“Supporting the police on operations like this means we can maximise our potential for uncovering immigration abuse.

“During this joint operation, officers made arrests across the West Midlands.

“This is part of the wider work Immigration Enforcement teams undertake across the UK every day to locate and arrest illegal migrants, reduce illegal working and take away the unfair advantage gained by those who employ illegal migrants.”

I knew this had to be news from another nation when I saw the title. Here in America the title would read...

Thousands of foreign criminals given housing, ID, cel phones, food assistance, and free education and health care.
