Border Patrol agents seized about 2.5 tons of marijuana – worth about $4 million—over the weekend.

On Saturday agents in a helicopter near Mission noticed a Chevrolet Tahoe picking up bundles of marijuana near the Rio Grande. Ground agents approached the driver, who then jumped in the river and swam to Mexico, abandoning his load of more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana with a value of more than $1 million.

On Sunday in Havana, agents seized about 400 pounds of marijuana, a value of more than $310,000. Agents seized marijuana in other areas throughout the weekend, bringing the total amount taken to 5,000 pounds.
