WATERLOO | A man deported eight times is charged with immigration violations after his arrest in Waterloo for alleged drug-related offenses.

Jose William Lopez-Martinez, 31, a citizen of Honduras, had been order out of the country as far back as April 2000. He was last removed from the United States on Aug. 2, 2012, according to court records.

Lopez-Martinez was convicted of illegal re-entry in April and December 2011. Court records show both times he allegedly waded across the Rio Grande River from Mexico into Texas.

In September 2013, Lopez was in the Black Hawk County Jail on a marijuana charge. He was turned over to immigration authorities Jan. 17.

Wednesday, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. He is charged with illegal re-entry. Lopez appeared in court Thursday and has been detained.
