CORPUS CHRISTI — Border Patrol rescued a woman Wednesday who had been left behind by a guide smuggling undocumented immigrants through the brush near Kingsville.

About 9 a.m., Border Patrol agents detained a man who walked out into the roadway to surrender himself and to tell the agents about a missing woman, according to a statement from the agency.

The man, who agents suspect is an undocumented immigrant, said a smuggler guiding a group of illegal immigrants abandoned the woman when she could no longer walk.

Agents began a search on foot for the woman and with the help of a helicopter. They found her in the brush.

The woman, a Honduran national, was treated for her injuries and detained. Both undocumented immigrants will be processed for release to their home countries, officials said.
