PHARR — Customs officers arrested a Reynosa man after they seized about $542,000 worth of cocaine last week at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.

Officers seized the drugs Thursday after they came in contact with a northbound 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement.

The vehicle was referred to secondary inspection, where "Tyson," a narcotic detector dog, smelled narcotics inside the car's console area.

After an X-ray scan, officers found six cocaine packages that weighed about 17 pounds hidden inside the car's console, authorities said.

Officers arrested the driver of the vehicle, Carlos Daniel Tenorio Mora, a 21-year-old Mexican citizen from Reynosa, on federal drug charges.

After his arrest, Tenorio Mora was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents who continue to investigate the crime. Tenorio Mora remains behind bars pending an appearance before a federal judge.

CBP officers seized the Mitsubishi Galant and the cocaine.
