More than 200 citations were issued to motorists last week during a sheriff's checkpoint targeting drivers with no insurance or driver's licenses.
Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Strike Team conducted the two-day stationary vehicle check operation, which resulted in 213 citations. Of those citations, 91 were given to drivers with no insurance, and 75 drivers were cited for not having a driver's license. Eighteen citations were given to drivers with expired inspection stickers on their cars, and 12 citations were issued to drivers with expired car registration stickers.
Citations were also given to drivers not wearing their seatbelts, driving with an open alcoholic beverage, expired dealers tags, invalid driver's licenses, having unrestrained child passengers and making illegal u-turns.
Deputies said similar operations will be conducted in the near future.
