A Houston man who is in the United States illegally could face deportation after he serves a 10-month sentence for assault with a long-handled pizza spatula.

Horacio Ramirez Perez, 43, was sentenced Monday to 10 months in the Harris County Jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury. That was a reduced charge from the initial felony allegation of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, namely the metal spatula.

According to Bellaire police, Perez got into an argument Saturday afternoon with a female employee at a pizza restaurant in the 5400 block of Bissonnet.

"Two of the employees began to have a disagreement on whose task it was to prepare certain items," said Assistant Chief Michael Leal. "One accused the other of trying to boss (others) around."

As the argument became more aggressive, Perez began swinging a large metal spatula with a long handle, Leal said.

Another male employee who tried to intervene ended up getting whacked a couple times with the heavy utensil, Leal said.

"I believe he ended up with some stitches around his chin or mouth," the assistant chief said.

Bellaire police took Perez to the city jail, where he was transferred to the county lock-up.

Although Perez is here illegally, according to a court employee, deportation at the end of his sentence is not a foregone conclusion, if recent trends are any indication.

The number of inmates deported through an agreement between the Harris County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has declined sharply in the past few years.

According to the federal agency's data, the number of suspected illegal immigrants identified through the agreement known as 287(g) dropped from more than 8,800 in 2009 to about 2,800 last year, a decrease of 68 percent.

That right, they wont deport you until AFTER you RAPE or KILL someone on American soil even though allowing you to stay here once detected is a violation of many of our current federal laws, the US Constitution, and the self governance and wishes of about 80% of Americans that would want to see this illegal deported.
