TX - Immigrants abandoned in 100 degree heat over the weekend

EDINBURG, Texas – Nine undocumented immigrants were rescued in 100-plus degree temperatures over the Fourth of July weekend after they were abandoned by their smugglers, the U.S. Border Patrol said Wednesday.

Kingsville agents received numerous 911 calls about lost immigrants, the release said. Of the six rescued, more than half were transported to the hospital in need of immediate medical attention. All were in distress due to the sweltering heat and told agents that when they could no longer keep up with the smuggler, they were left behind, the release said.

Falfurrias agents also responded to a 911 call from an immigrant who was in need of medical help after being abandoned in the brush. Agents in the field were able to successfully locate the immigrant and provide aid. The immigrant was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Another rescue occurred when the Guatemalan consul asked for help in locating a lost immigrant north of Raymondville. Agents quickly acted and were able to locate the immigrant, who was also transported to a local hospital.

From Oct. 1, 2015 to the present, the RGV Sector has seen the number of rescues increase 54 percent, while the number of deaths have decreased by 3 percent, the release said. With temperatures expected to rise above 100º, Border Patrol agents are urging immigrants to not jeopardize their lives by attempting to illegally enter the United States or roundabout a checkpoint. The public is encouraged to help by reporting suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

I can't even believe they are admitted to US hospitals. Why aren't they just turned away and left with a case of bottled water? I hope they are also deported as well, this is nuts.
