PRIMERA – A 29-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old at a New Year’s Day party.

Ivan Trevino was given a bond of $15,000. He’s being held at the Cameron County jail. Primera Chief of Police Manuel Trevino told CHANNEL 5 NEWS Trevino is in the country illegally. Border Patrol placed an immigration detainer on the 29-year-old.

Police said the assault happened on Alonzo Road Friday at 8:30 p.m. People at the party noticed a 5-year-old was missing. They told police they found Trevino and the child in a dark area in the back of the property.

According to officers, relatives asked Trevino why he lured the child away. He was reportedly extremely nervous. Police said that’s when the child made an outcry she has been sexually assaulted.

One of the relatives assaulted Trevino. The 29-year-old then fled the area. Primera police later found him hiding under a nearby mobile home. They took him into custody. The 5-year-old was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
