Stolen truck with immigrants crashes

A stolen pickup hauling 14 undocumented immigrants crashed through a fence at Southwest Research Institute during a police chase Saturday, authorities said.

The incident began about 11 a.m. after a San Antonio officer in a patrol car noticed a stolen Dodge pickup traveling along Culebra near St. Joseph Way, SAPD Sgt. Kevin Reser said.

The officer and a police helicopter followed the vehicle before the truck fled at a high rate of speed, Reser said. The truck drove through a fence at the research facility and crashed into a ditch.

No one was seriously injured. Ten men found hiding under a tarp in the pickup's bed told police that they had recently been picked up in Mexico. Police used a helicopter to search for four men who fled into the woods inside Southwest Research Institute's gated property.

The truck was reported stolen in Dallas last week
