Undocumented Immigrant Charged in Fatal Tollway Accident

HOUSTON - An undocumented Mexican immigrant is being blamed for a fatal accident that took place in west Houston Wednesday morning.

Jose Olivarez, 32, is charged with criminally negligent homicide.

The fatal collision occurred along the West Sam Houston Tollway exit ramp near Bellaire Boulevard around 9:30 a.m., according to Houston TranStar.

The Harris Count Precinct 5 Constable’s Office says Olivarez was driving his SUV at a high rate of speed when he struck a wall, a toll booth light, a second wall and an SUV in the EZ Tag exit lane.

The crash caused the SUV in the EZ Tag lane to flip over.

The male driver of that SUV died. His wife was not seriously injured.

Olivarez was taken into custody after officers discovered he wasn’t licensed or insured.

A female passenger riding in his vehicle fled the scene on foot.
