Valley Officials Testify for Homeland Security Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Zapata County sheriff, McAllen police chief and the DPS chief are in Washington, D.C. They testified at a Homeland Security Committee meeting about cartel violence along the border.

They all say they see cartel violence everyday. DPS Chief Steve McCraw, Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez and McAllen police Chief Victor Rodriguez wanted to send one message. They need more resources and more officers on the streets to protect the border. They say the border isn't secure.

“Some of the consequences, for example, is you have a proliferation of organized crime cartels. I say organized crime because they are no longer involved in drugs. They are involved in kidnappings, extortions, murders,â€
