CORPUS CHRISTI — The wife of a Kenedy County Justice of the Peace pleaded guilty Thursday to smuggling 10 undocumented immigrants.

Sandra Lee Miller pleaded guilty to aiding, abetting and assisting her co-defendant Maria Genoveva Guerra with transporting undocumented immigrants into the United States.

Miller is married to Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Jerry Miller.

On July 2, Sandra Miller's white Hummer was pulled over by a Texas DPS trooper for a defective license plate light, according to an affidavit. The trooper noticed 10 other people in the vehicle while he talked with Miller and called for assistance from Kingsville Border Patrol.

Women in the vehicle were identified as undocumented immigrants; one was Guerra, from Mexico, and the others were from Ecuador, Honduras and Guatemala.

Miller told the trooper that she picked up the people on a corner near her house and was taking them to the store. She then asked for a lawyer, the affidavit states.

Guerra later told police that Miller asked Guerra to meet her at her residence in Sarita to help translate for some undocumented immigrants that were staying in a barn near Miller's home, according to the affidavit. Guerra said Miller offered to pay her $100 to transport the undocumented immigrants to Houston.

Miller arranged family members to pay her $500 for each undocumented immigrant with a Money Gram.

Miller and Guerra will be sentenced December 4.
