U.S. Border agents help nab suspected career criminal near Columbus, NM

EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol Agents in Deming, New Mexico arrested a 44-year-old Mexican National with an extensive criminal history after he made his illegal entry near Columbus, New Mexico on December 20, 2017.

Gonzalo Juarez Limon was discovered after attempting to conceal himself in the brush, in southern New Mexico. Agents took Juarez Limon into custody and processed him for removal. His immigration records revealed that he had 10 prior immigration arrests. A more in-depth review of his criminal history also revealed the Juarez Limon was wanted by Mexican authorities for possible “aggravated homicide.”

The efforts to bring him to justice have been ongoing by the U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector Foreign Operations Branch (FOB), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and their Mexican law enforcement counterparts.

The FOB works hand-in-hand with Mexican authorities to seek prosecution in the country of Mexico for Mexican Nationals who are wanted for crimes in their home country.

The “Procuraduria General de la Republica” (PGR) in Ciudad, Juarez, Chihuahua was contacted and provided with the statements obtained by U.S. Border Patrol Agents. The statements indicate the subject was actively sought on murder charges.

The diligence of the U.S. Border Patrol and ICE paid off as the PGR agreed to take custody of Juarez Limon in an exchange of custody at the international border.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, Juarez Limon was released from being detained for his immigration violation and was repatriated back to Mexico into the custody of the PGR and the “Instituto Nacional de Migracion” (INM). He is awaiting trial for homicide.

U.S. Border Patrol, El Paso Sector Chief Aaron A. Hull stated, “This case is another successful coordination effort between U.S. authorities and the government of Mexico to bring international fugitives to justice.”
