U.S. Border Patrol Arrests Convicted Sex Offender

Iraqi citizen is illegally present in the United States

DETROIT—Border Patrol agents assigned to the Detroit Station arrested a citizen of Iraq who is a convicted sex offender over the weekend.

Agents responded to a call from Macomb County Sheriff’s deputy to assist in identifying a man from Iraq who was involved in an altercation at a marina in Harrison Township, Michigan. The subject was identified by agents as Moushtaq Korkees, a 44-year old male and convicted sex offender. He was transported back to the Detroit Border Patrol Station for further processing.

Record checks revealed that Korkees was convicted in 1997 of Felony Criminal Sexual Conduct, and in 2009 and 2010 for Failure To Register As Sex Offender.

He had been admitted to the United States on an Immigrant Visa in 1994, and was ordered removed from the country in 1997 subsequent to his conviction.

He was placed on an Order of Supervision by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while the agency attempted to procure travel documents for his return to Iraq. He violated the parameters of several Orders and has been an absconder from ICE since 2013.

“This collaboration between Border Patrol and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office resulted in a predator being removed from the community,” said Detroit Station Patrol Agent in Charge David York. “The goal of our work with law enforcement partners is making our communities a safer place to live.”


Korkees was processed and turned over to the custody of ICE ERO for removal to Iraq.
