U.S. BORDER PATROL Weekly Blotter: (11/17/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 22,822 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested seven criminal aliens and eight gang members. There were three rocking incidents.

El Paso Sector – Off-duty Border Patrol agents rescued a subject from a plane crash near Anthony, New Mexico. The agents observed the plane fall from the sky and hiked to the location. At the scene, they extracted a subject with leg injuries who was pinned in the plane. The agents remained with the subject until local emergency medical services arrived on the scene.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,561 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet truck near Sullivan City, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading suspected narcotics into the truck at the Rio Grande River. The vehicle was followed by a CBP Office of Air and Marine air asset to a residence. A search warrant was obtained and executed, resulting in the seizure of the marijuana and the truck.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Gila Bend, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for homicide and weapons offenses in the state of New Jersey. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 182 pounds of marijuana and a loaded handgun near GuVo, Arizona. A CBP Office of Air and Marine air asset observed several subjects carrying burlap sacks, and agents responded to the area, arresting one subject and seizing the marijuana and the weapon.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for annoying/molesting children and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC) after he circumvented the Columbus, New Mexico Port of Entry. Records checks revealed the subject had active warrants of arrest for assault on a Federal officer and possession of marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,387 pounds of marijuana and a GMC Yukon near Lukeville, Arizona. Agents observed the vehicle approaching them when it suddenly veered off the road and into the open desert. Agents followed the vehicle and later discovered it abandoned. The marijuana was found inside the vehicle.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Columbus, New Mexico. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Barrio Azteca gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including a felony conviction for aggravated robbery in the state of Texas. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 6,723 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-tanker, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the conveyance, and a subsequent search revealed the marijuana concealed in the tanker.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,553 pounds of marijuana, a GMC pickup truck, and arrested a USC near La Casita, Texas. The marijuana was observed in the bed of the pickup truck.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,274 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet Suburban near Mission, Texas. Agents attempted to perform a vehicle stop, but the driver failed to yield and then deployed homemade tire spikes in an attempt to disable Border Patrol vehicles. The driver subsequently abandoned the Suburban in the Rio Grande River and absconded into Mexico. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,062 pounds of marijuana and a vehicle near Sullivan City, Texas. Agents attempted to perform a vehicle stop but the driver failed to yield and deployed homemade tire spikes in an attempt to disable Border Patrol vehicles. The subjects abandoned the vehicle and absconded. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.

During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Avenues gang, an affiliate of the Sureño gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aggravated robbery in the state of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fabens, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Barrio Azteca gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño gang and records checks revealed that he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,577 pounds of marijuana near Menegers, Arizona. The marijuana, which was tied into bundles and fashioned into backpacks, was discovered abandoned in the desert.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,184 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet Suburban near Ajo, Arizona. Agents located the vehicle abandoned near the border and discovered the marijuana inside the conveyance.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Patagonia, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for child molestation issued in the state of Georgia.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Needles, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had been previously removed from the United States.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Shamrock, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Southsiders gang, which is affiliated with the Sureño gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,319 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Ukraine at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies inside the trailer. A search of the trailer uncovered the marijuana.
