U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: July 2 - July 8

(07/08/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 11,069 pounds of marijuana valued at $8,882,560, over 25 pounds of heroin valued at $835,980, and one pound of methamphetamine valued at $26,208. Agents arrested 16 criminal aliens and 7 gang members. There were 11 rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a previous conviction for rape against a minor in the State of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents responded to the report of a subject carrying a rifle and wearing body-armor near Lordsburg, New Mexico. When agents arrived on the scene, the subject had absconded into Mexico, but abandoned 685 pounds of marijuana valued at $547,840.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 476 pounds of marijuana valued at $380,800, a 1994 Lincoln Town Car and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) car near La Paloma, Texas. Agents observed suspicious activity and attempted to intercept the vehicle when the suspect’s vehicle struck a Border Patrol vehicle. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Vayuco gang.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,304 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,043,200 near Los Barreras, Texas. During regular patrol duties, agents observed several unidentified subjects carrying bundles of suspected marijuana. When agents attempted to apprehend the subjects, the subjects abandoned the marijuana and absconded back to Mexico.


San Diego Sector – An off-duty Border Patrol agent detained a suspected rapist near San Diego, California. The agent observed the subject running with a knife pursued by a bleeding woman calling for help. The agent gave chase on foot and detained the subject until local law enforcement officers arrived and took custody of the suspect.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents detained a USC near Blythe, California following a vehicle stop. Records checks revealed the subject was wanted on two active felony arrest warrants associated with dangerous explosives and weapons. The subject was turned over to local law enforcement authorities.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Mecca, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender with two convictions for sex offenses against a child/fondling, and an active arrest warrant for obscenity issued in the State of California.


San Diego Sector – A Border Patrol agent arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tecate, California. As the agent was affecting the arrest, several individuals in Mexico assaulted the agent with rocks, and the subject actively resisted. The agent deployed his Border Patrol-issued ECD (Taser) and the subject was taken into custody.

Blaine Sector – Border Patrol agents detained a USC near Bellingham, Washington. Records checks revealed the subject had an active arrest warrant for domestic violence issued in the State of Washington and was in possession of a stolen U.S. passport. The subject was turned over to local law enforcement authorities.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents seized one pound of methamphetamine valued at $26,208, a 1994 Ford Thunderbird, and arrested three USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Columbus, New Mexico. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the seats of the vehicle. A search revealed the contraband hidden in the body cavities of two of the subjects.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 20.3 pounds of heroin valued at $652,560, a 1997 Dodge Caravan, and arrested two nationals of Mexico near Pine Valley, California. The heroin was concealed using factory voids in the vehicle’s frame and aftermarket modifications.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual assault of a child in the State of Nebraska and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico near Arivaca, Arizona. Records checks revealed one subject had a prior conviction for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The second subject, a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member, had a prior conviction for sexual assault in the first degree. Both subjects had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,408 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,126,640, a 1995 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the vehicle revealed forty bundles of marijuana between pallets of canned goods.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Indio, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor in the State of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for sex with a minor and illegal discharge of a firearm with gross negligence. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual battery in the State of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Portal, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual misconduct with a minor, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,630 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,104,240, a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search revealed 122 bundles of marijuana concealed in duffel bags between pallets of sugar.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Dateland, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had several criminal convictions and an active arrest warrant in the State of California for a weapons violation.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,289 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,831,360, a 2000 tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Westmorland, California. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed the marijuana hidden in a concealed compartment.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sunland Park, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal record and was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,023 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,618,000, a 2002 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed 88 bundles of marijuana within the shipment of limes.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for a sexual offense against a child and had been previously removed from the United States. He also had an active arrest warrant in the State of Washington.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents near Nogales, Arizona, observed an ultra light aircraft release an object before returning to Mexico. Agents responded to the area and arrested a USC and two nationals of Mexico. Agents also seized 254 pounds of marijuana valued at $203,480, and a 2002 Isuzu truck.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Amado, Arizona. Record checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history including a prior conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child in the State of California. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States as an aggravated felon after being convicted of sexual assault of a child in the State of Texas. He also had an active arrest warrant in the State of Texas for a probation violation.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Ysidro, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being an 18th Street gang member. In addition to being previously removed from the United States, records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including convictions for burglary, attempted robbery, and felon in possession of a firearm.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 5.73 pounds of heroin valued at $183,420, a 1998 Nissan Maxima and arrested two nationals of Mexico during a vehicle stop near Temecula, California. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the rear bumper, and agents located four bundles of heroin wrapped in black plastic.
