Protesters demand ICE out of Fresno County Jail, want Sanctuary City

FRESNO, Calif. - Protesters took to the streets of Downtown Fresno, forcing the closure of "M" Street. Protesters said they are taking a stand against local law enforcement and city officials, when it comes to immigration. They said they want Immigration Customs and Enforcement out of the Fresno County Jail and want Fresno declared a Sanctuary City.
"We're not content with the city the way they are approaching the issue of immigration and we want better policy," said Cesar Casamayor, protester.
Casamayor was just one of the dozens who rallied outside of the jail, Sunday, demanding Fresno cut its ties with ICE.
"We don't appreciate their presence here in our city because our people are living in fear," said Casamayor.
"If someone goes through domestic abuse, if someone is sexually assaulted, right now, if they're undocumented, where are they going to turn?" said Alexandria Ramos-O'casey, a protester. "Do they really feel safe calling the police officers who work in conjunction with ICE to handle their cases?"
Others also seeking for city officials to declare Fresno a Sanctuary City.
"The city council and the mayor need to defend the undocumented community," said Luis Ojeda, protester.
Protesters linked arms with one another and sat in the middle of "M" Street. Organizers said they had this all planned out but police said they were not informed.
"We didn't know about it, however, once we got word of it, we came down and saw they were in the street. So we do have some officers on scene," said Lt. Rob Beckwith, Fresno Police Department.
Police said their biggest concern was safety.
"We have spoken to them and we have let them know that but again we want to keep this peaceful and we'll do the best we can right now," said Lt. Beckwith.
But protesters said they just want to make sure their voices are heard during a time of turmoil.
"We will take back the power we will continue to advocate for the community and we will continue to make change to ensure that happens, so until ICE is out of Fresno and until Fresno is a sanctuary city we will not give up," said Ojeda.
Police said they will investigate to see if they can identify anyone who broke laws during this protest.

Fresno has become another dump. It was cleaned up in the late 90's through the early 2000's. Now overrun with illegals, gangs, trash, theft and violence. They destroy every town they infest. They destroy the local parks.
Deport them all.ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
