Illegal alien climbing fenceLatino special-interest groups are angered at CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric for airing a report on the staggering taxpayer cost of healthcare for illegal immigrants.

Groups like La Raza and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) have written a letter of complaint to CBS, arguing the report promoted "anti-Latino falsehoods" and demonized illegal aliens. In the news piece, CBS reporter Byron Pitts interviewed a pregnant woman from Mexico who was rushed to a south Texas hospital to undergo an emergency C-section. He noted the $4,700 procedure did not cost the woman a dime because she qualifies for emergency Medicaid. Pitts also cited a study that estimates Americans are forced to pay $1.1 billion per year for the healthcare of illegal aliens.

Bob Knight, director of the Culture and Media Institute, says Latino groups are angry with Couric because she "went off script." But Knight contends the mainstream media has failed to examine the real cost of illegal aliens.

Robert Knight"[T]he mainstream media [has] pretended that there is no cost or downside to [the] millions of people coming over the border illegally," he notes. "So, these groups are really trying to intimidate Couric ... [and] her colleagues at the major networks."

The website for one Hispanic group sports a photo of Couric that morphs into CNN host Lou Dobbs. Dobbs is also a contributor to CBS' The Early Show, and has been the target of protests by socio-ethnocentric special-interest groups because of his staunch opposition to illegal immigration.

Knight also calls the CBS report a breath of fresh air amidst largely biased media coverage of the illegal immigration debate. He believes the mainstream media sees the introduction of millions of illegal aliens as a way to bolster the Democratic voter base. And he argues that if they can get those who are in the country illegally on welfare programs and dependent on government subsidies, then they can ensure a "new generation of Democratic voters."

Latino activists argue Couric's broadcast on illegal alien births was inconsistent, because in June she is scheduled to receive an award named for Alice Stokes Paul, the author of the Equal Rights Amendment.

American taxpayers shouldn't have to pay a dime for illegal aliens. What is fair about that!!! Illegals are destroying this country in more ways than one... ENFORCE THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!

I am tired of the media covering this illegal alien problem up and ignoring the American citizen, the middle class. It's about time the truth comes out and the media starts reporting it, including the number of Americans being killed on a daily basis by illegal aliens. Our kids futures and our grandkids futures depend on our laws being enforced. Why are they enforced for everyone BUT... illegal aliens?!!!!!!

Well, according to millions of Americans, you can take that as a compliment Katie!

I generally have not liked Katie Couric, but if she takes a true stand on illegal aliens, and starts reporting the truth, say become the female Lou Dobbs, then I can see watching her. Her main problem is the network she is on; they are soft on illegal aliens, and the people and programs that support the illegals. I’m sure CBS gave her hell for this.

The truth comes out of the shadows! It's funny how they react when ANY negative information about illegal immigration comes out. There is ALWAYS a problem with it. It is ALWAYS wrong. It is ALWAYS about racism. And, they almost ALWAYS threaten a lawsuit.

They ridicule newspapers, web sites, television programs, studies, reports, networks, reporters, anchors, authors, polititions, Americans, Congress and a war that happened 160 years ago! BUT, you will NEVER hear them admit that they are ILLEGALLY in our country and have broken the law.

They want to control the information that gets out about illegal immigration. They DEMAND Lou Dobbs be fired. They DEMAND meetings with television executives so they can DEMAND certains words not be broadcast because they are code words for 'hate speech'. They don't realize how much Americans value their right to FREE SPEECH and they can't keep us quiet. The truth is coming out and they are getting desperate.

This is the Major Global Corp's of America doing all this crying . This is where La Raza and the rest get their opp money from. This is who wants the dirt cheap labor with the ladder of education being funded by the citizens . It wouldn't be long till a "IT Tech" is a $8/9 dollar an hour job. Wonder if that will get Americans kicking and screaming ? No Job , No Hope , No DREAM .

The pro-illegal invader groups simply can not tolerate the truth being told about their beloved illegal invaders. They are terrified of the possibility of mainstream America learning the truths about illegals and the backlash that might produce.

They would rather surpress objectivity and replace it with biased reports which place their illegals in a favorable light.

Americans should be very suspicious of any group that cries racism any and everytime the truth is attempted to be to told regarding the detrimental impact that illegal immigration has on this country.

I was THRILLED when this aired! Do you realize how many Americans were NOT aware that illegal aliens are getting all these freebies??? Because this was shown in prime time, millions MORE now know! Legal immigrants are LIVID, as they don't qualify for the freebies and we know US citizens don't! I emailed that video/article to my entire address book and let me tell you, I got PLENTY of WTF? responses!

We need to get MORE of such news on MSM!

You see, there is one thing networks love more than anything and that something is RATINGS which make them $$$$$ from advertisers. They need to obtain and retain viewers in order to convince their advertisers that their ads will be seen by lots and lots of folks who will spend money to buy those products.

From not only the competitive standpoint, but also with the economy being what it is, who is the better investment for the network? It certainly is NOT a minority population of spanish speaking illegal aliens who watch their own spanish channels and care more about soccer matches and soap operas than they do political issues they neither understand nor care about.

As the networks lose viewership to cable news and other media not afraid to address the issue, are illegal aliens stepping in to fill that void? NO, they are not nor will they ever. The network heads and ownership are not stupid. They are in business to make money, they will not continue down a programming path where there is nothing in it for them at the end of the line. Where is the pay day for them in a future democrat voting base who does not now, and will not ever, have an interest in their stations or programming? It's just not there, simple as that.

So, let LaRaza and the others complain, throw their hissy fits and tantrums. They've been getting a cold, hard reality check, they have found out that the American people are the ones who count in this country, and they just don't like it.

If I was on cbs and the letter came to my desk I would shread it.
