287(g) Changed by Obama's DHS - Now Free Pass To Illegals

I researched this today and found it mind boggling what the Obama Administration is doing with this program. It is highly effective and when you compare the cost; this program is one of the most effective, hands down.

•287(g) is cost-effective — much less expensive than other criminal alien identification programs such as Secure Communities and Fugitive Operations. For example, in 2008 ICE spent $219 million to remove 34,000 fugitive aliens (mostly criminals). In 2008, ICE was given $40 million for 287(g), which produced more than 45,000 arrests of aliens who were involved in state and local crimes. In Harris County, Texas, the billion-dollar ICE Secure Communities interoperability program found about 1,718 removable aliens in its first six months beginning late in 2008; meanwhile the locally paid 287(g) officers in the same jail system charged about 5,000 criminal aliens over the same time period.

•287(g) is a force multiplier. In 2008, the Colorado state 287(g) unit alone made 777 immigration arrests. In that same year the entire ICE investigations office based in Denver, which covers all of Colorado and several other states, made a total of 1,594 arrests. In Maricopa County, Ariz., the local ICE detention and removal manager supervises five ICE deportation agents, who are supplemented by 64 additional locally paid county jail 287(g) officers who also identify and process criminal aliens.

I have also provided the links in the bottom of the Article to give you an in-depth look at what the program is and what they are doing to it to make it less effective. What is Obama doing; is the man mad?

Also, I am preparing an extensive links list on the left side bar. Scroll down to it to review. I will continue adding to it daily and ask that all interesting links I should add be posted here in the comments. I would be eternally grateful.

Also, note the poll that links to NPR Radio on the left of the article. When I contacted this group for help, Fox News was down 10,000 votes behind the White House in who do you support. Now Fox News is over 1,000,000 votes and the White House is around 300,000. Thank you to all! You came through big time. We still are not at 90% so please vote and send others to the poll. It is attached to NPR and you can click on the bottom of the pole to get the current results and leave comments. There are almost 1,000 comments and they are some of the best reading on the net.

It's outrageous. Every state needs to pass a simple state immigration bill and authorize under state authority the ability to arrest and detain. Every public office in each state should already be using E-verify so they can verify the immigration status of the people they arrest that way and then raise hell with the federal government en masse to get some buses and planes lined up to get these people out of here.

Homeland Security Department Gags Local Law Enforcement to Protect 'Privacy' of Illegal Aliens
    Friday, October 30, 2009
By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

Homeland Security Department Secretary Janet Napolitano has said she will concentrate on 'criminal aliens' when enforcing federal immigration law. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)(CNSNews.com) – The Department of Homeland Security is gagging local law enforcement agencies around the country to protect the privacy of illegal aliens.

Under "revised" 287(g) agreements between the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement division and state and local law enforcement agencies, any information about local police efforts to enforce federal immigration law must be cleared through ICE before it can be released to the media or the public. DHS says it is doing this to protect the privacy of illegal aliens.

“The Privacy Act and the privacy policy provide protections for U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents and, in the case of the privacy policy, illegal aliens,â€
