PHOENIX (AP) — Legislators are working to reallocate $1.6 million from two state funds to give to Pinal County for border security.

The Arizona Senate on Thursday gave preliminary approval to a bill that would make a one-time funds transfer from the state's county attorney fund and the state indigent defense fund.

Supporters say the bill would help combat the state's number one trafficking corridor that doesn't get any of the state's general border security money.

Opponents say the bill is unfair because it would take money from all counties to concentrate it in a single county that doesn't have a high crime rate.

The bill now goes to the House.
