LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. -- Loudoun County will receive a $163,000 reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Justice to help cover the cost of incarcerating illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes in the United States.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is one of 809 local entities out of 3,140 across the U.S. that successfully applied for federal programs to help supplement local tax burdens.

The money comes from the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program, which provides federal payments to states and localities to offset additional officer salary costs from incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Justice Benefits Inc., a public sector consulting firm located in Dallas, Texas, that specializes in locating and accessing hard-to-find federal reimbursements for local and state entities.
