US Plans to Deforest the Rio Grande River Bank: Toxic Aerial Spray













In a major setback to the environment this week, the Laredo TX city council voted to allow the US Border Patrol to aerially spray the US-Mexico border with the toxic herbicide Imazapyr, a substance which begins to kill all vegetation immediately upon application.

Many residents at the meeting opposed this move, citing the environmental impact and potential risk to public health, as well as the likelihood that the chemical could contaminate the water supply for Nuevo Laredo, their Mexican sister-city.
The accompanying photo (above) shows the effects of an aerial spray conducted six months prior on a test site near Laredo. Federal officials considered the results "successful" in efforts to eradicate the invasive plant carrizo; however, the site now slated for defoliation contains 1000 living species, including four endangered species. This photo was taken on the Zachary Ranch in March 2008 by Dr. Jim Earhart of the Rio Grande International Study Center.

Local activist Jay J. Johnson-Castro Sr. of the Rio Grande International Study Center stated in a telephone interview that federal agents intend to eventually spray the extensive border river area, from Big Bend to Brownsville Texas. "Why would they make the initial spray in a populated area?" he queried. Clearing 1.1 miles of border between the cities of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo will cost $2 Million.

Maybe it's just me, but it's just possible that this may be about something more than an invasive species of vegetation.

Use of defoliants has been used quite effectively by our military for a long time now and considering what's going on in Mexico, the violence spilling over and threatening to erupt here, stepped up attacks on our LE personnel in the border regions, requests from governors for troops to be deployed, Mexican officials warning that it won't be long before we see heads rolling down our streets AND the fact that FINALLY our government seems like they are going to do something..........

...........well, is it really so hard for these people worried about environmental issues to add it all up and consider that this could all have something to do with issues other than plant life?

Clean shrubbery, double fencing, put military bases along borders, Border Patrol, ICE, Local Police, E-Verify, and punishment of aiders and abettors. Take census of only American Citizens, no undocumented students in our colleges, fix id fraud and id theft laws, make banks responsible when it comes to identity and giving out money.

When I first read it I wondered how the soil would stand later, after taking away all those roots. I lived on islands and one thing you didn't want to do was get rid of the foliage near the water, especially most of it. Small places is one thing but .... things like junipers and small bushs hold that sandy soil in.

I do hope it has to do with illegals and viewing them better. Especially if drug people had guns. Otherwisw why would border patrol be doingit instead of some group?

Did you see the report on TV yesterday concerning how much ID theft is up? Most Americans have no clue that much of it is for illegals..... The public is so ignorant and I find that sad for them and sad for America.

All those comedians that intetrviewed the Obama supporters around the country got the real dope on what's up with them. It was quite shocking that they know NOTHING about obama and everything about Palin??? ODD?? An Obama ploy that did work.
Then you look at the college kids, which I would expect more in depth scrutiny, and they knew JACK! All they know is Obama good, Palin bad and they gave reasons that were false and twisted around to deflect Obama from anything questionable.

At least all this fury over bonus's is opening up the Obama supporters eyes to what is going on behind the scenes of the Obama Regime. Chicago politics is what's happening!
