USBP Arrests 2 Felons over Holiday Weekend

USBP Arrests 2 Felons over Holiday Weekend

    Release Date: February 16, 2021

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two convicted felons over the weekend during two separate incidents in San Diego County.

On Friday, at 5:09 p.m., agents patrolling State Route 94 near Campo pulled over a Black Honda Accord near Star Ranch Rd. Agents questioned the driver and three passengers.

The passengers were determined to be illegally present in the U.S.

All four subjects were taken to a nearby Border Patrol Station for further processing. At the station, agents discovered that the driver, a 28-year-old United States citizen, was a documented gang member with an extensive criminal history.

The four undocumented migrants were processed for removal and the driver is facing human smuggling charges.

In a second event on Tuesday afternoon, agents arrested a convicted sex offender near Otay Mesa.

On Saturday, at 2 p.m., agents on patrol encountered a man north of the primary wall who had crossed the border illegally west of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. The man was transported to a nearby Border Patrol Station where record checks revealed that he had a prior conviction for lewd acts with a child under 14, and a felony conviction for re-entry after a prior removal.

The individual will be processed for removal.

“I am proud of the vigilance displayed by our agents,” said Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke. “Their hard work keeps our neighborhoods safe, by keeping criminals out of our communities.”

To prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders. To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
